These Gorgeous Stones Were Accidentally Created From Layers of Car Paint In Old Auto Factories At first glance, these brilliantly colorful gemstones might look like agate, a stone valued for its beauty and used in the jewelry industry. Their origin, however, might surprise you – these stones, called Fordite or Detroit Agate, are actually paint deposits from old car paintings racks. Before the car painting process was automated like it is now, automotive bodies were painted by hand on long production lines. The vehicles’ paint would drip off and dry on the equipment used to move the automotive bodies. Enterprising workers who recognized their potential value chipped off these waste products and saved them to be turned into jewelry later. Some these stones can represent America’s automotive history – the older Fordite specimens contain colors that are no longer popular today, like pastel yellow or sea-foam green. His self-portraits are all incredibly unique and after viewing them you're left wondering where he's going to take you next. What I enjoy most is that you can almost feel his passion come through. China's Abandoned Wonderland In Chenzhuang Village, China, about 20 miles northwest of central Beijing, the ruins of a partially built amusement park called Wonderland sit near a highway, surrounded by houses and fields of corn. Construction work at the park, which developers had promised would be "the largest amusement park in Asia," stopped around 1998 after disagreements with the local government and farmers over property prices. Developers briefly tried to restart construction in 2008, but without success. The abandoned structures are now a draw for local children and a few photographers, who encounter signs telling them to proceed at their own risk. Reuters photographer David Gray visited the site on a chilly morning earlier this month and returned with these haunting images of a would-be Wonderland. Where Children Sleep James Mollison traveled around the globe and took some incredibly eye-opening photos of children's bedrooms. He then compiled them into a book, titled Where Children Sleep. Each pair of photographs is accompanied by an extended caption that tells the child's story. The differences between each sleeping space is striking. Mollison was born in Kenya in 1973 and grew up in England. "The project became a vehicle to think about poverty and wealth, about the relationship of children to their possessions, and the power of children – or lack of it – to make decisions about their lives," says Mollison. Lamine (above), 12, lives in Senegal. Tzvika, nine, lives in an apartment block in Beitar Illit, an Israeli settlement in the West Bank. Jamie, nine, lives with his parents and younger twin brother and sister in a penthouse on 5th Avenue, New York. Indira, seven, lives with her parents, brother, and sister near Kathmandu in Nepal. Roathy, eight, lives on the outskirts of Phnom Penh, Cambodia.
