Blogs - getcrafty.com Project UK - make felt from pets by Camilla Stacey It feels like I’ve been crafty all my life- from a childhood spent watching my Dad making pots, and my Mum learning to spin, through to art school and my latest incarnation as a curator and maker. It’s not always been a smooth ride- after art school I refused to have anything to do with the ‘creative’ world for years, and it was only when I took part in Ladyfest Bristol in 2003 that I was willing to connect with the arty side of me again. Over the last two years I have been rediscovering and reclaiming crafts and am slowly rediscovering and reclaiming myself and what makes me happy. Made by Milla is my current creative outlet. Inspired by ideas of feminism, domesticity, and re-valuing traditional crafts, I make aprons, brooches, cushions and clothing for girls that are ‘lumpy, not frumpy’. Made by Milla is part art, part craft and ever evolving- it’s current evolution has lead to a little something we like to call Project UK. 1. 2. 3.

How to Make Marshmallow Fondant This time I decided to make it with those mini fruit flavored marshmallows. I had to sort them by colour first. I figured they would add a little bit of flavor to the fondant so I wouldn't have to add much flavoring oil. I use gel colours to dye my fondant but regular food colouring will work too. I also had lemon oil and coconut flavoring on hand.. oh la la the value brand (which still works fine). Step One: Take a couple of handfuls of marshmallows and put them in a microwave safe bowl. I like to make smaller batches because its easier to add the colour to the melted marshmallow than it is to work the colour into the fondant later. Step Two: Stick the marshmallows in the microwave for ten seconds at a time until the are puffed up and easily stir into a goo with a wooden spoon. Step Three: Add food colouring to the melted marshmallows until you get the colour you want. Step Four: Start folding icing sugar into the marshmallow goo until it becomes a soft and fluffy dough. Finished fondant! 1.

Make Designer Tara St. James' Recycled Zipper Bracelet (DIY Tutorial) Share on Tumblr Email A discarded or broken zipper, at least 15 inches long (the longer the zipper, the wider the cuff) Thread to match A long-ish needle Measuring tape Scissors Pin (optional) Measure your hand at the widest point with your thumb loosely tucked into your palm. Mark out that measurement along one end of the zipper with a pin. Wind the zipper around itself by lining up the marked pin point with the end of the zipper. Start stitching at the end of the zipper with ¼-inch long stitches. Keep stitching all the way to the other end, keeping your stitches neat as they will be visible. I find it easiest to sew with the zipper winding in a counter-clockwise rotation, but do what’s comfortable for you. Repeat steps 1-5 with the other side of the zipper. Place one piece over the other, with the tape ends overlapping. Stitch both zippers together along the top of tape’s loose end. Voila! + Tara St.

Brown Butter Double Fudge Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough Cookies Little bit of a mouthful there. But it’s like a cookie on top of another cookie! Yeah. Except these ones down below wanted to try a few different positions. I dunno… they’re all mixed up. In order to solve a common I-want-a-chocolate-CHOCOLATE-cookie-but-he-wants-a-plain-chocolate chip-cookie dilemma that happens like, every single weekend here… I made both. Some of them smashed up against each other while others sat on top of each other but in the end, they all tasted… fantabulous. And then they tasted extra delicious after I spent two hours cleaning out the contents of our bar (take that as you will), after he spent three hours organizing the pantry (that was weird) and after we both needed to severely eat our emotions immediately post-Boardwalk Empire finale. WHAT was that. ??????? Why??? Then I tried to dunk a cookie in milk and failed. I need cookie dunking lessons, a redo on season 2 (thanks HBO), and a salad. Brown Butter Double Fudge Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough Cookies makes 24 cookies

Chocolate Covered Squid - Valentine's Day Candy From the Sea Covering squid in chocolate is actually pretty easy and quick. The Squid Instructables gourmet chef and experimentor Canida let me use some extra squid she happened to have. You can buy squid at some super markets and at most fish stores. Squid are cheap, so these one of a kind chocolates won't cost a bundle unlike some other "seafood" chocolates out there on the market. If you get them pre-cleaned it will save you some time. Each chocolate is made from the tentacles of one squid. I took my squid bits and threw them into some boiling water for a minute or two. The Chocolate I made my chocolate sauce by melting half a chocolate bar spiced with chili together with about a tablespoon of butter. Put the chocolate mixture into the microwave and cook it in 15 second bursts, stirring in between, until the butter and the chocolate are melted.

Chocolate Cupcakes with Flaming Strawberries Call me easily amused, but these little torch-topped cupcakes delight me. Besides being a cute novelty item for a party, I think they would add a little drama to the end of a romantic meal. I've been looking for something different to serve for Valentine's dessert, and this is definitely different. The strawberries are hollowed out and filled with a bit of liquor, then ignited with a match. For the cake portion, I chose a One Bowl Chocolate Cupcake recipe because 1. it's quick 2. it is easy, and 3. it fits my prerequisite for a light ending on date night. I should say, a light ending provided you don't eat too many. The cakes are just sweet enough, and have a light, fluffy crumb - the perfect vehicle for rich chocolate buttercream. Notes for flaming strawberries:Any alcohol below 80 proof will not ignite well. Shaina made a margarita version of this on Babble Food. Chocolate Cupcakes with Flaming Strawberries Yield: About 20 cupcakes [click to print]Cupcakes: Preheat oven to 350 degrees.

Sweet Potato Biscuits with Honey Cinnamon Butter - StumbleUpon Have you given up on making biscuits? Do they seem like too much trouble for the end result? I was kinda in that boat. I made these for the first time last fall to go with some Thanksgiving leftovers. And to make a good thing even better, they always turn out great! And because I live in the land of biscuits and honey, we top it all off with some must-have honey cinnamon butter! Gather Up:2 cups cooked, mashed sweet potatoes 1 stick butter, melted 1 ¼ cups milk 4 cups self-rising flour Pinch baking soda 3 tablespoons sugar For the Honey Cinnamon Butter:1 stick butter, room temperature 3 tablespoons honey ¼ teaspoon cinnamon Pinch kosher salt Mix together the sweet potatoes, butter and milk until well blended. Shape the dough into a ball and knead about 10 times on a well-floured surface. Roll the dough out about ¾ inch thick and cut with a 2-inch biscuit cutter. Bake on a greased pan in a 400 degree oven 15 – 20 minutes, until just turning golden brown. Serve warm with the butter.

Great gifts for oral fixation folks! Toothpicks with taste. - OCCASIONS AND HOLIDAYS These are super easy and have been a hit so far. All you need is some wooden toothpicks and a small bottle or jar and flavor oil.I used natural flavor oils that I bought at the local bulk food store. I tried Anise, Lemon, spearmint, cinnamon (which may not be natural?) So in a glass jar..spice jars work well...pour approximately 1/8 -1/4 inch of oil. Allow the oil to be soaked up by the picks. Remove from jars and lay on non absorbent surface ie cookie tray. **If impatient like me..place toothpicks in 250f oven for approx. 5 mins. I call mine Toothpicks with taste. Let me know if you try it.
