They’re intentional gatherings of all kinds of people who come together for a month somewhere in nature to cook together, sing around the fires, make workshops, share experiences and generally come together as ‘a family’. Some people see the Rainbow Gatherings as a manifestation of a new consciousness as a tribe of many colours gathers to bring in a New Age upon the earth, fulfilling ancient Hopi Indian prophecies. Others see it as an opportunity to hang out in nature for a month and have a great time. Either way the Rainbow Gatherings are unique events in that there’s no commerce of any kind, no alcohol, and there’s nobody in charge. Rainbow Gatherings usually last for a month (a cycle of the moon) and are held all over the world and are particularly strong in Europe. Here is a book about the Rainbow Gatherings in Europe with some chapters online. Calendar of Rainbow Gatherings 2016 March Germany Spring Rainbow Gathering March 9 – April 7 April May June July

What Causes Autism? What We Know, Don’t Know And Suspect One of the great and enduring mysteries of autism is what causes the brain to develop so differently. The behavioural differences of many individuals with autism are so apparent that it seems intuitive that the causes would also be obvious. But research over the past 70 years has indicated this isn’t so. Into this knowledge gap have come all sorts of weird and wacky ideas about the causes of autism: television, power lines, vaccines and sex position during conception. None have any credence, but have fuelled the mystery surrounding what may cause autism. In the 1950s and 1960s, there was a widely held belief that autism was caused by parental coldness towards the child. Leo Kanner, the man who first described the behaviours that characterise autism, explored “a genuine lack of maternal warmth” as a possible explanation for autism. Several eminent scientists eventually extinguished the myth. Since this time, research has focused on biological factors that may lead to autistic behaviours.

www.lushprojects.com - Circuit Simulator This electronic circuit simulator is highly interactive giving the feeling of playing with real components. It's very helpful for experimentation and visualization. Best of all, thanks to the power of HTML5, no plug-ins are required! The original implementation, in Java, belongs to Paul Falstad who kindly gave his permission for me to build this port. Click here to open the simulator in a full window. How to use this When the simulator starts up you will see an animated schematic of a simple LRC circuit. To turn a switch on or off, just click on it. There are three graphs at the bottom of the window; these act like oscilloscopes, each one showing the voltage and current across a particular component. The "Circuits" menu contains a lot of sample circuits for you to try. Some circuits, eg Basics->Potentiometer, contain potentiometers or variable voltage sources. Here's a video to help you get started. Drawing and Editing Circuits Components may be moved and resized in the selection mode.
Languages - Portuguese - Talk Portuguese - A video introduction to Portuguese The Most Important Design Jobs Of The Future Yesterday's graphic designers are today's UX designers. Will tomorrow's UX designers be avatar programmers, fusionists, and artificial organ designers? Yes, according to the illustrious roster of design leaders we spoke with here. Design has matured from a largely stylistic endeavor to a field tasked with solving thorny technological and social problems, an evolution that will accelerate as companies enlist designers for increasingly complex opportunities, from self-driving cars to human biology. "Over the next five years, design as a profession will continue to evolve into a hybrid industry that is considered as much technical as it is creative," says Dave Miller, a recruiter at the design consultancy Artefact. "A new wave of designers formally educated in human-centered design—taught to weave together research, interaction, visual and code to solve incredibly gnarly 21st-century problems—will move into leadership positions. The next "big thing" is not a thing.

I, robot. You, unemployed One evening last autumn, four experts in the field of artificial intelligence arrived in Westminster with an urgent message for our government. There’s a robot revolution on the way, they said, and unless we prepare for it we’re in trouble. The briefing was a quiet affair — I was one of only a few journalists invited, for fear of headlines like ‘The Terminator is coming’. However, by the time the last A.I. expert had said his piece, it was hard to imagine how a hack could over-hype the story. The four experts spoke in turn, each about a different point in the future, like biblical prophets warning of the End Times. How do we ensure these brilliant robots don’t turn against us? I peered about in the hope of catching policy wonks scribbling memos such as: ‘Must action plan to prevent robot world domination.’ The next seer had a less apocalyptic vision, but it was perhaps more frightening for being so immediate and inevitable. I wouldn’t be so sure of that.
CLICABRASIL! Hi, I am Vivian Flanzer, the Portuguese language coordinator at the University of Texas at Austin and the creator of ClicaBrasil. I was born and raised in Brazil. I developed ClicaBrasil as a classroom tool for our Portuguese language courses here at UT-Austin. People all over the world are now using it for different purposes: self-study, classroom instruction, tutoring, or as a pastime. I hope you find it as useful and informative as well. ClicaBrasil was developed for intermediate level learners of Portuguese. Tips for the Learner: Click the Lesson Index to discover the content of each lesson. Each Lesson starts with a Pano de fundo (Backdrop) section, where you can learn about the lesson’s specific socio-cultural scenario; it ends with an Aproximando o foco (Zooming in) section, where you can explore these aspects more extensively. To the right of each video, you will find a short glossary (Termos úteis), a Portuguese transcription, and an English translation. Tips for the Instructor:
