Martin Nicolausson : Work Clopen shelf with secret drawer by Torafu Architects The latest project by Japanese studio Torafu Architects may look like a standard floating shelf, but it actually contains a slim secret drawer that can be opened with magnets. The Clopen shelf comprises ash veneer over an aluminium frame and drawer mechanism, creating a 23mm-deep hiding place. It's in production with Japanese firm Tanseisha. Here's some more information from Torafu Architects: Clopen This shelf panel is constructed from elaborate aluminum parts, and at 34mm thick, it looks as if it's made of natural wood. When pulled, a secret 23mm thick drawer appears, it is of minimal thickness to store your valuables such as stamps and passbooks. The impression of the shelf completely changes when its hidden aluminum space is revealed from within the sliced veneer surface.

The "cobrina" collection is the result of a collaboration with Hida Sangyo, a well-established furniture manufacturer in Japan. ("cobrina" derives from the Japanese expression "koburi-na" used to describe things that are smallish or undersized.) Characterized by rounded top surfaces and slender slanting legs, the small-sized pieces of furniture lend a mellow atmosphere to their surroundings. Upon first encounter, these might even appear as a flock of small animals. "cobrina chair"The slightly shorter height of cobrina chairs allow them to be neatly stowed under the table. "cobrina table"The cobrina table is obtained by scaling up the shape of cobrina chair seat plates. "cobrina stool"Like a smaller version of the cobrina table, the cobrina stool can be placed next to a sofa to be used as a side table.
