Let me just say a few things about the Kurds in general, and then Syria. And the Kurds in all four countries have, at different times with different levels of intensity, rebelled against central authority. But the same cannot be said, obviously, for the other countries. So when Syria—let me just say one more thing about the Kurds. And these are Kurds who are very close to the Turkish Kurds. So they emerged as the strongest Kurdish group. ZAIN: Hi.

No es la primera vez que Turquía ataca objetivos militares en territorio sirio ni que se aprovecha de la guerra civil en Siria para ocupar territorio kurdo. Lo hace porque no desea que se consolide el control territorial kurdo sobre la frontera turco-siria, tanto en el sector occidental, donde coopera con las fuerzas rebeldes sirias (Ejército Rebelde Sirio), compuestas mayoritariamente de combatientes árabes, como en el sector oriental, que se encuentra bajo el control de las milicias del Frente Democrático Sirio (FDS). Las FDS han adquirido notoriedad y experiencia militar combatiendo a Estado Islámico en el noroeste del país. La percepción desde fuera de los enfrentamientos armados en Siria depende de la preferencia de los espectadores. Para los que ya se han apuntado a un relato en blanco o en negro, la realidad se interpreta de modo que coincida con el desenlace de preferencia. Cuando la proyección carece de matices se elimina la pesada tarea de seguir el guión y discriminar quiénes son los buenos y los malos y cuándo intervendrá el Séptimo de Caballería. Por el contrario, cuando la realidad se plasma en blanco y negro, se amplía la paleta cromática con tonos grises que obligan al espectador a agudizar sus sentidos y que mantienen la incertidumbre sobre el desenlace de la película. Visto en blanco y negro, el guión resulta más complejo. Los espectadores en blanco o negro esperan que los incidentes desemboquen en una intervención armada, pero quienes podrían ponerla en marcha han apostado por la prudencia. Los hechos han confirmado las previsiones anticipadas en esos análisis y ya quedan pocas dudas de que el conflicto ha entrado en una guerra civil. Los contendientes luchan abiertamente por el control político, territorial y mediático porque están convencidos de que su enfrentamiento sólo se decidirá por las armas. Un juego de guerra civil suma cero con dos bandos dentro y fuera del país: el régimen alauí, asistido por Rusia, China e Irán, tratando de mantenerse en el poder y la oposición, apoyada por los países del Grupo de Amigos de Siria, que trata de derribarlo.
