How long should I keep bills, receipts, bank statements and insurance policies? The paperwork from bills, receipts, bank statements and insurance policies can quickly become overwhelming unless you keep up with streamlining the clutter. Begin by sorting your papers into categories: legal documents, tax records, banking and investment, utility payments, medical and insurance, pay stubs and other income statements, home improvement and appliance receipts, warranties and appliance manuals. How long you should keep the paperwork depends on the category. Legal Documents Legal documents include your birth certificate, deed to your home, homeowners and life insurance policies, vehicle titles, marriage certificate, divorce decree, citizenship or naturalisation papers and your will. Tax Records Keep tax records at least three years if someone else employs you and at least six years if you are self-employed or have several sources of income. Budgetfacile.com, pour gérer votre budget et suivre vos comptes The Scientific 7-Minute Workout Ben Wiseman This column appears in the May 12 issue of The New York Times Magazine. Exercise science is a fine and intellectually fascinating thing. An article in the May-June issue of the American College of Sports Medicine’s Health & Fitness Journal does just that. “There’s very good evidence” that high-intensity interval training provides “many of the fitness benefits of prolonged endurance training but in much less time,” says Chris Jordan, the director of exercise physiology at the Human Performance Institute in Orlando, Fla., and co-author of the new article. Work by scientists at McMaster University in Hamilton, Ontario, and other institutions shows, for instance, that even a few minutes of training at an intensity approaching your maximum capacity produces molecular changes within muscles comparable to those of several hours of running or bike riding. Interval training, though, requires intervals; the extremely intense activity must be intermingled with brief periods of recovery.
Dessertation | “All you need is love. But a little chocolate now and then doesn't hurt.” C.M. Schultz Total Immersion: How I Learned to Swim Effortlessly in 10 Days and You Can Too Is it possible to get good at swimming late in life? Yes. (Photo: Shutterhack) Swimming has always scared the hell out of me. Despite national titles in other sports, I’ve always fought to keep afloat. I’ve tried to learn to swim almost a dozen times, and each time, my heart jumps to 180+ beats-per-minute after one or two pool lengths. No more. In the span of less than 10 days, I’ve gone from a 2-length (2 x 20 yards/18.39 meters) maximum to swimming more than 40 lengths per workout in sets of 2 and 4. At the end of January, a kiwi friend issued a New Year’s resolution challenge: he would go all of 2008 without coffee or stimulants if I trained and finished an open-water 1-kilometer race in 2008. He had grown up a competitive swimmer and convinced me that — unlike my other self-destructive habits masquerading as exercise (no-gi BJJ, etc.) — it was a life skill and a pleasure I needed to share with my future children. So why is this post only coming out now, eight months later? The Method

Daylight Backpack - Backpacks - Travel Bags – TOM BIHN Materials: Construction: Specs: The minimalist approach: webbing straps, build your own padded back panel, and just a pocket or two. When it's time to go — to work, on a hike, or on a trip — our Daylight Backpack will be your solid, ultralight, and true companion. With a tablet or laptop and a light sweater/jacket, you're off to work, with room for a few last minute groceries on your way home. The Daylight Backpack was born from our desire for a pack as light and as utilitarian as the Packing Cube Backpack, but refined to be more pack and less cube. We initially struggled with wanting to add a padded back panel (we've all grown used to that comfort), but we were reluctant with this ultra-light design to add that additional weight and bulk. Turns out (you probably saw this coming) that these pouches also lend themselves well to organizing the inside of your Daylight Backpack.
