Alter Ego A One Man Mobile Studio At Burning Man When acclaimed studio photographer Eric Schwabel goes to Burning Man he doesn’t leave his passion behind. In 2010 he took a clever hand built “light suit” to the massive festival in Nevada’s Black Rock Desert and captured the plethora of beautiful, colorful revelers in engaging detail. Below we catch up with Schwabel for an exclusive interview about his experiences on the dusty playa. If you like Burning Man, make sure to check out the photography of Scott London. How heavy was your human light suit and was it hard to steer? The suit gives your images an almost in-studio lighting effect. Back when you were planning this escapade we turned you on to another friend of Visual News, Mike Hedge, for advise on keeping your camera snappy on the dusty playa. What was the response like from the people you photographed? That’s a lot of lights.

The End Stranger Project on the Behance Network I started this project in 2007, my first goal when i started is to breack the usual rule of « dont speack to stranger, dont disturbe people in public space» So this is my approche at first: Questioning the modern world in which we are living and trying to break this individualism and the anonymity of the big city. By going into “Non-lieux” (no existing places) (subways, malls, and crowded streets at rush hours …;) and by talking to people to take photos, I break the usual way this modern world works for a few instants. I make real these “non-lieux” by creating an event that the stranger will remember. So all my model are stanger meeting in the street, trains, subway, mails, etc. ( I look for an editor for making a Book ) The Domovoi <<stopallsound>>\n<<fadeinsound $intro>><<nobr>>\n<<set $maintain to "no"; $kneel to "no"; $broom to "no"; $samovar to "no"; $towel to "no"; $oven to "no"; $image to either(1,2,3)>>\n<<endnobr>>\n\n\n//Recorded in <<print either("the Urals","Tula province","Orel province","Saratov province","Voronezh province")>>//\n<<display either("0.0","0.1","0.2")>>\n\n[img[candle2]] [img[domovoi1]]<<fadeinsound $hammer>><<playsound $hammerclick>>\nThe domovoi felt the blow, then the floor, then the household's scream. Culture jamming Culture jamming (sometimes guerrilla communication)[1][2] is a tactic used by many anti-consumerist social movements[3] to disrupt or subvert media culture and its mainstream cultural institutions, including (but not limited to) corporate advertising. It attempts to "expose the methods of domination" of a mass society to foster progressive change.[4] Culture jamming is a form of subvertising.[5] Many culture jams are intended to expose questionable political assumptions behind commercial culture. Tactics include re-figuring logos; fashion statements; and product images as a means to challenge the idea of "what's cool. Origins of the term, etymology and history[edit] 1984 coinage[edit] As awareness of how the media environment we occupy affects and directs our inner life grows, some resist. The Daily Intelligencer Doctor Who's 50th Anniversary The Doctor Who doodle started life as a request from a huge fan at Google. It seemed daunting- 11 Doctor's, 50 years of adventures, countless enemies and time travel! But we loved the idea of science fiction, technology and fun coming together, so we set about creating a multiple level game. The game was always a simple premise- those dastardly Daleks have stolen the Google letters and we need Doctor Who to retrieve them. Artists don't make games, programmers do. Remapping Rhetorical Peaks: A Video Game for First-Year Writing The Prototype As described by Matteo, the RP prototype led the student/player through a series of quests in order to accumulate evidence that could be used to make an argument as to the identity of the killer of Professor Gorgias, a rhetoric instructor in the fictional town of Rhetorical Peaks. The player would take on the role of Gorgias’s student and would interact with the non-player characters (NPCs) populating Rhetorical Peaks. In his article, Matteo noted two main limitations of the prototype. Rhetorical Peaks seems to be designed to exercise each of the three Aristotelian rhetorical appeals in isolation from one another. Although Matteo goes on to note that discussion of RP in the classroom could encourage students to recognize the interplay of the three rhetorical appeals within the game, the workgroup nonetheless was concerned that, by organizing separate quests for each appeal, students would be more likely to treat them as isolated concepts. Do Not Touch Olmec Olmec jadeite mask 1000–600 BCE The Olmec were the first 'major' civilization in Mexico following a progressive development in Soconusco.[1] They lived in the tropical lowlands of south-central Mexico, in the present-day states of Veracruz and Tabasco. It has been speculated that Olmec derive in part from neighboring Mokaya and/or Mixe–Zoque. The Olmec flourished during Mesoamerica's formative period, dating roughly from as early as 1500 BCE to about 400 BCE. The aspect of the Olmecs most familiar now is their artwork, particularly the aptly named "colossal heads".[4] The Olmec civilization was first defined through artifacts which collectors purchased on the pre-Columbian art market in the late 19th century and early 20th century. Etymology[edit] The name "Olmec" comes from the Nahuatl word for the Olmecs: Ōlmēcatl /oːlˈmeːkat͡ɬ/ (singular) or Ōlmēcah /oːlˈmeːkaʔ/ (plural).
