blogs.suntimes.com/ebert/assets_c/2009/09/2_Darwin tree-11130.html When I began as a film critic, Jean-Luc Godard was widely thought to have reinvented the cinema with "Breathless" (1960). Now he is almost 80 and has made what is said to be his last film, and he's still at the job, reinventing. If only he had stopped while he was ahead. That would have been sometime in the 1970s. Maybe the 1980s. The thousands of seats in the Auditorium Debussy were jammed, and many were turned away. Continue reading → An article reflecting on 25 years at the movies by Roger Ebert. How to Build a Hardwood Floor This Weekend If the room is carpeted, remove the old carpeting and padding to expose the plywood subfloor. If the room has a sound wood or vinyl floor, you can install the floating floor right on top. Floating floors also can be laid over a concrete slab. However, if the slab is below grade, such as in a basement, be sure the flooring is engineered for this situation. A quick word about baseboard molding: I removed the molding, laid the flooring, then installed new baseboard and quarter-round shoe molding. Start by vacuuming the subfloor.
Never Be My Friend When I'm bored, I browse through my friends' Facebook images, choose my favorites, and draw them. Sometimes I take... liberties. Let's just call it artistic license. R.I.P. Chloe's grandma. when I drew you looking like a corpse. I occasionally wonder why I still have friends at all. 8 Real Women Who Deserve Their Own Movies Hollywood, we have to talk. I’ve spoken to every ticket-buyer in America and we’ve all decided that you need to make more movies about badass women. Like, starting yesterday. It should not be that hard, Hollywood. Don’t know where to start, Hollywood? 8. Lozen was the sister of an Apache chief. 7. A wise man once said “ending a movie summary with the phrase ‘and then he stomps the living hell out of a bunch of Nazis’ automatically makes everything about your movie better.” Seriously, I don’t know, I actually never saw Top Gun. 6. According to legend, Candace of Meroë, Queen of Ethiopia, got on an elephant and drove Alexander the Great out of her country. Seriously, guys, Robin Hood and King Arthur probably never existed. Anyway, about Meroë movie… Hollywood, you really dropped the ball on this one. 5. I know what you’re thinking, but this is not a kid’s movie. 4. 3. 2. Yay, more elephants! That’s just… how do you even do that? 1. Okay, seriously, you guys?

List of urban legends about illegal drugs LSD[edit] Some of the strangest urban legends told are those about lysergic acid diethylamide (LSD), a potent psychedelic drug that gained popularity in several countries in the 1960s and 1970s, and experienced a brief resurgence in the mid to late 1990s before declining from 2000 onward. The drug's relation to the 1960s counterculture was likely part of the reason for such legends. Attempted murder[edit] "Anyone caught selling LSD can be charged with attempted murder." Babysitter places baby in the oven while high on LSD[edit] This is an unverifiable drug-scare story dating to the 60s of a hippie babysitter girl putting a baby in the oven and a turkey in the bassinet. Bad LSD[edit] A "bad trip" is easily caused by an expectation or fear of ill effects, which may later be blamed on "bad acid." However, drugs described as LSD in the 1970s occasionally actually contained PCP, amphetamine, or other drugs that have quite different effects from LSD. Vanilla Buttermilk Cake with Instant Fudge Frosting I have a real thing for the 70′s. I mean, heck, I was born smack dab in the middle of them, into a family of much older siblings ready and eager to love, spoil and torment an unsuspecting baby sister, so overall I’d say it was a pretty fabulous era. When I think back to my first memories of cake, they come along with my first memories of life at all: sitting around the dining room table with siblings who, at that time, would have been about 15, 14 and 8. Throughout the 70′s (and possibly the 60′s), I remember my mom serving yellow birthday cakes with chocolate fudgy icing. , and I knew I had to try it. With a total of 4 whole eggs + 2 additional egg yolks, as well as buttermilk, butter, and a generous amount of sugar, this cake has a gorgeous texture and is a beautiful golden yellow. The frosting is made in the food processor, which was pretty exciting for me since I am in love with my new food processor and am always looking for a reason to use it.
