Using the Paragraph Palatte in Illustrator Most people know Illustrator for its drawing abilities, but it’s also a powerhouse when it comes to working with text. In this tutorial, we’ll take a look at a number of features in the Paragraph palette, both visible and hidden, that can add professional polish to any text-heavy document. STEP 1 Create Basic Layout To begin, let’s create a layout that contains two columns of unformatted text. The first thing we’ll do is justify the paragraphs so both sides have clean, straight lines. STEP 2 Choose Your Composer Justifying results in large gaps between some words. STEP 3 Apply Composer to a Single Paragraph You can apply both the Single-Line and Every-Line Composer to individual paragraphs instead of applying it to all paragraphs in the text container. STEP 4 Open Justification Dialog Choose Justification from the Paragraph palette flyout menu. STEP 6 Adjust Letter Spacing Letter Spacing can make or break the legibility of a paragraph.

Create a Classic, Sailing Ship in Illustrator CS5 In this tutorial I will show how to create a sailing ship illustration with a story book style, using the Gradient Mesh to make the cloth of the boat's sails. I will also use the Gradient Mesh to colorize the wooden parts of the boat. Then, the Scribble filter and the Brushes application will be used to create the sea. Step 1 Let's start by creating the boat's sketch. Step 2 Use the circles as a sketch to delineate the rounded forms of the boat. Step 3 To conclude the outline of the boat's shape, delete the two circles. Step 4 Select everything and, in the Pathfinder panel, activate the Divide option. Step 5 With the Direct Selection Tool, select one part of the boat and fill it with a mid-tone color. Step 6 Next, create the drawing of the wood on the boat. Step 7 Click twice over the Blend Tool icon to activate its options. Step 8 Select the left side of the shape and drag a copy to a layer above the layer of lines formed by the Blend Tool. Step 9 Step 10 Step 11 Step 12 Step 13 Step 14 Step 15
How to Create a Pixel Perfect Glass Button with Adobe Illustrator CS5 In this tutorial you will learn how to create a glass button using simple shapes, pathfinder box, clipping and opacity masks, and Blending Modes. You will also learn how to optimize your vector work as a web graphic and how to quickly replace the colors of the required elements. Step 1 Take the Rectangle Tool (M) and create a square with a blue filling (C = 25, M = 2, Y = 0 and K = 0) Step 2 Take the Ellipse Tool (L) and create a circle. Now trim the circle to square shape. Step 3 Fill the resulting shape with a linear gradient from blue (C = 100, M = 65, Y = 0 and K = 0) to light-blue (C = 53, M = 0, Y = 0 and K = 0), and set the Blending Mode to Multiply in the Transparency palette. Step 4 Create two more circles. Applying the technique described in step 2 trim these circles to the square shape. Step 5 Select the two resulting shapes and hit the Divide button from the Pathfinder palette. Fill them with different gradients and set the Blending Mode - Multiply for each of them. Step 6 Step 7
edit keyboard shortcut for word spacing HiI'm using Indesign CS4 on a mac. I want to apply some word spacing (not kerning or tracking, just spacing between words) to some paragraphs. My Real World Indesign CS4 book tells me that the following shortcuts should work:1. To increase the word spacing without affecting the letter spacing press Comand-Option-/ or Ctrl-Alt-/ which will add the base kerning increment (as defined by the value in the Kerning field in the Units and Increments Preferences dialogue box) after each space character in the range of text. 2. Hold down the shift key aswell to increase the above by 5 times. 3. To decrease the word spacing without affecting the letter spacing press Comand-Option-Delete or Ctrl-Alt-Backspace which will deduct the base kerning increment (as defined by the value in the Kerning field in the Units and Increments Preferences dialogue box) after each space character in the range of text. 4. 2. Can anyone please help Thank youJohn

Illustrator CS5 * Customize keyboard shortcuts Keyboard shortcuts make you more productive in Illustrator. You can use the default shortcuts included with Illustrator, or add and customize shortcuts to suit your needs. Customize keyboard shortcuts Illustrator lets you view a list of all shortcuts, and edit or create shortcuts. You can define your own sets of shortcuts, change individual shortcuts within a set, and switch between sets of shortcuts. If you have previously saved a set of keyboard shortcuts other than the default, then the keyboard shortcuts are stored in a .kys file in Illustrator's preferences folder. You can use the same .kys file across platforms as long as the modified shortcuts are valid for the platforms. Following are the locations where the custom Illustrator keyboard shortcuts are saved by default: Mac OS: Windows Vista and Windows 7 Win XP In addition to using keyboard shortcuts, you can access many commands using context-sensitive menus. This might include renaming preview images that they have right-clicked or dragged down from your website, or even renaming files that you submitted as part of an assignment or for licensing as stock. Even if they see your watermark, or know enough to read the metadata (File Info) and find your contact info, how can they tell you which image that they have in hand? The following sections include instructions or links to other instructions or resources that describe automated methods for writing your image filenames to the Title field of your IPTC metadata using the various applications mentioned.
