Bio - Darrell Thorne Darrell Thorne is a Brooklyn based, multi-disciplinary artist working in the areas of makeup, costume design, and performance art. Darrell specializes in creating otherworldly, highly detailed characters and elements for stage, screen, and editorials. As a performer Darrell works regularly in nightlife, theatrical, and private events in New York City, nationally, and internationally, and has been featured in videos for Jennifer Hudson, Blondie, Brooke Candy, The Magnetic Fields, and Steven Klein. Recent live performances include the Park Avenue Armory (New York), Ageha (Tokyo), the Social Star Awards (Singapore), The Life Ball (Vienna), the Mexico City Cabaret Festival, and as the opening act on RuPaul’s Drag Race Premiere Tour. As a costume designer, Darrell’s work has been featured in editorials for Numero, VMagazine, Japan Vogue, and Paper, and he recently designed a custom mask for Madonna, worn in her Living for Love video.

And while today's new-age travellers appears to have taken the philosophy even further, preferring to use traditional horse-drawn caravans instead of gas-guzzling vans, they also appear to be embracing the modern technology like mobile phones, laptops and even Facebook. During the late 1980s and 1990s stories about the travellers were commonplace - illegal raves, clashes with the police, drug busts and fury at the criminal justice act. Photographer Iain McKell took his first pictures of new-age travellers 25 years ago.

The fully articulated gown based on the Fibonacci sequence was designed by Michael Schmidt and 3D modeled by architect Francis Bitonti to be 3D printed in Nylon by Shapeways. The gown was assembled from 17 pieces, dyed black, lacquered and adorned with over 13,000 Swarovski crystals to create a sensual flowing form. Thousands of unique components were 3D printed in a flowing mesh designed exactly to fit Dita’s body.

The two dresses, called Flowing Water, Standing Time, are the latest examples of autonomous clothing created by Gao. Whereas her previous projects have reacted to nearby people, by twisting and curling when strangers approach or lighting up when someone stares at them, the new dresses instead respond to colours in their immediate surroundings.
