Photo essay: Where children sleep | The Lookout Recently, the charitable organization Save the Children asked documentary photographer James Mollison to come up with an idea to get people thinking about the rights of children around the world. What he came up with was an unusual, but powerful project: a photo essay of more than 200 children and their bedrooms, called "Where Children Sleep." "I found myself thinking about my bedroom: how significant it was during my childhood, and how it reflected what I had and who I was," Mollison, who was born in Kenya, writes. "It occurred to me that a way to address some of the complex situations and social issues affecting children would be to look at the bedrooms of children in all kinds of different circumstances." The book has sold out since its initial printing last year, and Mollison says his publisher intends to reprint it later this year. Mollison photographed the child's bedroom and the child separately, juxtaposing the two photos. James Mollison Kana, 16, lives in Tokyo: James Mollison
Art of Food & Wine Palm Desert The Art of Food & Wine Palm Desert is an annual gathering of art, food and wine enthusiasts in Southern California’s Coachella Valley. The four-day event features food and wine tastings, art exhibitions, celebrity chef demonstrations, culinary seminars, music, shopping and golf. The 2009 event was scheduled to take place from November 5 through November 8, 2009, but was canceled due to the recession. History[edit] The idea for the festival began four years ago at Desert Springs JW Marriot Resort & Spa, where, then Director of Business Development Tammy Perezchica noted that there were no luxury food and wine festivals in the southwest to mirror those in Aspen and South Beach. Poster Art[edit] The 2006 poster art was created by accomplished artist Ken Joudrey. The 2007 poster art was done by artist Michael Bast. The 2008 poster art was created by Steve Nozicka.
