New Teachers: Designing Learning Environments
The Importance of Classroom Design Why does the physical design of classrooms matter? Mark Phillips discusses this question in "A Place for Learning: The Physical Environment of Classrooms" and offers examples of and resources for turning impersonal spaces into student-friendly havens of learning. For further inspiration, VideoAmy has compiled some videos to help you begin to conceptualize your classroom vision in "Five-Minute Film Festival: Classroom Makeovers." Learning Zones, Seating, and More For advice about seating arrangements, bulletin boards, and other considerations, Todd Finley has written a helpful overview of some factors to consider related to your classroom design, including information about the research, and links to video tours of exemplary elementary, middle, and high school classrooms. One specific method you can use to organize classroom space involves organizing the learning space into discrete zones with different purposes. Mobiluck - Mobiiliopetusteknologia lukiolaisen arjessa 20 Tips For A More Organized Classroom 20 Tips For A More Organized Classroom by Carrie Wible, opencolleges.edu.au “It’s around here somewhere”, you mumble while desperately rummaging through your desk, the filing cabinet, the book case, the storage compartments, and the twenty other places you stash things in the classroom. The teacher who asked for the papers is waiting, her foot begins tapping, and apparently something is wrong with her watch as she keeps looking at it and sighing. Yes! You finally remember putting the unit on Clouds and Weather in the filing cabinet but is it filed under “C”, “W” or “M” for meteorology? This happens more often than you would like to admit. Fear not, you are definitely not alone in this quandary. I remember as a first time teacher how excited I was to make the room mine. As an educator, your personality is going to shine through your room. Where Do I Begin? The easiest place to start is from within. “If a cluttered desk is a sign of a cluttered mind, of what, then, is an empty desk a sign?”

5 attributes that are crucial for success in the 21st century We can no longer assume that being ‘in work’ is the same thing as being employed – ‘having a job’. As the world becomes more connected, so companies get bigger, but so too do opportunities emerge for all kinds of small-scale, niche and self-employed enterprises. Many people who do not have ‘jobs’ in the old-fashioned sense bid for contracts online. Websites like broker deals between people who need a task done and those why know how to do it. Education is about the cultivation of competence and inclination. But reading is only one of these key dispositions. There is the ability to think on your feet, when your expectations are dashed and novel responses are required. There is the capacity to manage your attention. What about scepticism: the inclination to subject knowledge claims, especially ones that are written and authoritative, to critical scrutiny?

6 Essential R's to Reduce School-Wide Bullying The best way to reduce bullying is not with a one-time assembly or a poster campaign, but with homegrown, data-driven, sustained efforts by a caring, committed staff -- a model I call the six R's, a blueprint for effective bullying prevention. I've shared this model with hundreds of educators worldwide, and on U.S. Army bases. Each "R" is crucial in creating what our students deserve -- a safe, caring learning environment that breeds acceptance and respect. 1st R - RULES: Establish an Anti-Bullying Policy Develop an anti-bullying policy that fits your school values, focuses on prevention, features strong parental involvement, builds a respectful climate, and gets everyone on board. 2nd R - RECOGNIZE: Teach How to Identify Bullying All stakeholders must understand what bullying is, recognize indicators and receive ongoing training so that they can intervene appropriately and consistently. 3rd R - REPORT: Create Procedures to Report Bullying 4th R - RESPOND: Teach How to Respond to Bullying

Esitettävät ajatukset perustuvat Kajaanissa 2012 toteutettuun tutkiva opettaja -toiminnasta saatuihin kokemuksiin. Lopuksi
