Ses nus féminins grandeur nature donnent une réalité concrète à la torture infligée par l’obsession de la minceur, en nous mettant sous les yeux les distorsions de l’image corporelle dont souffrent beaucoup de femmes. Au début des années 1990, Jenny Saville emménagea à New York pour assister à des séances de liposuccion et de chirurgie esthétique aux côtés du Dr. L’un de ses tableaux les plus célèbres, Propped (1992), offre une vue en contre-plongée d’une femme assise sur un tabouret, qui se pince les chairs à pleines mains d’un air horrifié. La chair omniprésente, opulente et monstrueuse de ses modèles est le reflet d’une société en mal d’affection, tourmentée par les obligations corporelles. In 1990, midway through her BA course at the Glasgow School of Art, Jenny Saville exhibited in Contemporary '90 at the Royal College of Art. In 1992 she completed her degree as well as showing in Edinburgh and in Critics Choice at the Cooling Gallery, London. By 1994 many people were familiar with Saville's massive paintings, such as Plan, in which a naked woman is seen from below, her body filling the canvas through a combination of physical bulk and extreme foreshortening. She currently lives and works in Oxford, England.
