The 50 Best Free Datasets for Machine Learning - Gengo AI What are some open datasets for machine learning? We at Gengo decided to create the ultimate cheat sheet for high quality datasets. These range from the vast (looking at you, Kaggle) or the highly specific (data for self-driving cars). First, a couple of pointers to keep in mind when searching for datasets. A dataset shouldn’t be messy, because you don’t want to spend a lot of time cleaning data.A dataset shouldn’t have too many rows or columns, so it’s easy to work with. The cleaner the data, the better — cleaning a large data set can be very time consuming. There should be an interesting question that can be answered with the data. Let’s get to it! Dataset Finders Kaggle: A data science site that contains a variety of externally-contributed interesting datasets. The Ordination Web Page The Psychology of Social Media: Why We Like, Comment, and Share Online What would happen if you were to “like” everything you saw on social media? The developer Rameet Chawla found out when he built a script that liked every photo that passed through his Instagram feed. He grew his followers by about 30 a dayHe got invited to more partiesHe got stopped on the street by people who recognized him from InstagramHe got message after message from friends encouraging him to post more. He said it was “almost like they were frustrated, like they were longing for something to like in return.” The likes, comments and posts we share on social media can often seem inconsequential, but they matter. What if we could understand the psychology of social media and use that knowledge to bring customers closer, give them more of what they want, and create better relationships? I had the supreme privilege of talking about just that topic at Mozcon, a super fun and crazy informative marketing conference put on by our friends at Moz. Jeffrey Sachs: ‘By separating nature from economics, we have walked blindly into tragedy’ | Global Development Professionals Network Recent news brings yet another example of hubris followed by crisis followed by tragedy. The hubris is our ongoing neglect of human-induced climate change, leading to climate disruptions around the world. One of the many climate crises currently under way is the mega-drought in São Paulo, Brazil. The recent tragedy is an epidemic of dengue fever in the city, as mosquitos breed in the makeshift water tanks that have bought in to maintain supply through the drought. Welcome to ‘the age of sustainable development’. São Paulo is just one of many such cascading disasters. But it happens that 2015 is a key year of decision for sustainable development. These are momentous decisions, yet still badly understood globally. We need a new way of thinking, one that tightly links the human-made world of economics and politics with the natural world of climate and biodiversity and with the designed world of 21st century technology.
