50 Lessons Life Taught Me To celebrate growing older, I once wrote the 45 lessons life taught me. It is the most-requested column I’ve ever written. When my odometer rolled over to 50, I updated the list. Here it is: Life isn’t fair, but it’s still good. When in doubt, just take the next small step.Life is too short to waste time hating anyone.Don’t take yourself so seriously. Devil's Cake Balls If you haven’t heard of cake balls yet, I recommend that you check out Bakerella’s website to see what the fuss is all about. Cake balls are a great little invention; cooked cake batter crumbled and mixed with cream cheese frosting, rolled into balls, then dunked into melted chocolate. Don’t just make these for the health benefits though, they taste pretty darn good too. The recipe says to use any boxed cake mix for the type of flavor you want. For my first attempt I used Devil’s Food Cake mix, and a homemade frosting. 10 Wise Choices to Skyrocket Your Happiness “The amount of happiness that you have depends on the amount of freedom you have in your heart.” – Thich Nhat Hanh Who doesn’t want to be happy? Just take a look at any moment of your life, any choice you make. Isn’t your intention to be happy? By happiness, I don’t necessarily mean the pollyanna, silly-smile-on-your-face kind. Somehow true happiness eludes us, and here’s why. Happiness is absolutely within your reach. 1. Don’t blame others, turn yourself into a victim, or wait for someone to come and save you. 2. Be willing, open, courageous, and humble. 3. Nothing kills happiness more quickly than old hurts, resentments, and grudges. 4. The cause of unhappiness is the playing out of conditioned habits that don’t serve you. 5. We unknowingly build our lives around distorted beliefs and expectations. 6. Happiness is found here, in the eternal now – not in the past or future. 7. Life becomes heavy and burdensome when we are ruled by difficult emotions. 8. 9. 10. Are you happy?

Nine Things Successful People Do Differently - Heidi Grant Halvorson Learn more about the science of success with Heidi Grant Halvorson’s HBR Single, based on this blog post. Why have you been so successful in reaching some of your goals, but not others? If you aren’t sure, you are far from alone in your confusion. It turns out that even brilliant, highly accomplished people are pretty lousy when it comes to understanding why they succeed or fail. 1. To seize the moment, decide when and where you will take each action you want to take, in advance. 3. Fortunately, decades of research suggest that the belief in fixed ability is completely wrong — abilities of all kinds are profoundly malleable. The good news is, if you aren’t particularly gritty now, there is something you can do about it. 7. To build willpower, take on a challenge that requires you to do something you’d honestly rather not do. 8. 9. If you want to change your ways, ask yourself, What will I do instead?

DREAMS Have you ever wondered what your dreams mean? On this page you will get three points of view about the meanings of dreams! Welcome! What we want to accomplish on this page is for people to think about their dreams and what they may mean. This page talks a lot about Freud, but we do touch on Carl Jung, and Fritz Perls. We hope you enjoy this page. Freud Jung Perls Links to other sites Back to history of psychology main page Sigmund Freud "When inspiration does not come to me, I go halfway to meet it." Sigmund Freud practiced psychoanalysis. Freud had his own ideas about dreams. Freud said that dreams have two meanings. Freud also emphasized the wish-fulfillment hypothesis. Carl Jung Your vision will become clear only when you look into your heart. Carl Jung was born in 1875. Dream interpretation by Jung focuses on "taking up the context." Examining the context is supposed to be simple. Sigmund Freud and Carl Jung at Clark in 1909. Fritz Perls A Dream Interpretation Freud's Interpretation Links
