The Social Employee Manifesto | Smart Data Collective Traditional relationships, roles and leadership models are being challenged every day in our post industrial, social web enabled, information driven, people centric business world. Old approaches to managing employees, with their roots in the industrial society are not adequate for hyper-connected, socially aware employees. We need a new paradigm for getting things done and for empowering a new breed of employee that does not function well in a hierarchal, top down, highly controlled environment. So what does the social employee need to be successful? Here's a list of some things I think need to be considered in building a new and more productive work model: Social employees look for coaches and mentors not "bosses" Empowerment to take on business problems without micromanaging but within established guidelines. What the social employee brings to the business: Distributed micro-problem solving. This is a start anyway. Connect: Authored by: Michael Fauscette See complete profile

MXit Bandeka PicRate Yookos

OpenLink Data Spaces What are Data Spaces? A named structured data cluster within a distributed data network where each item of data (each "datum") has a unique identifier. Fundamental characteristics of data spaces include: Each Data Item is a Data Object endowed with a unique HTTP-based Identifier Data Object Identity is distinct from its Content, Structure, and Location (Address) Data Object Representation is delivered via structured content constrained by a Schema (in this case the Entity-Attribute-Value model) Creation, Update, and Deletion privileges are controlled by the Data Space owner. In relation to the Web, data spaces provide clustered points of access to data object; basically, they provide structured data access partitioning just as 'machine names' provide name oriented partitioning for DNS and 'table names' the same for database systems. Why are Data Spaces important? Data Spaces provide a powerful conceptual model based virtualization layer that sits atop heterogeneous data sources. News FAQs

Identifying a collaboration platform This is a follow-up from yesterday’s post that the LMS is no longer the centre of the universe and Jane Hart’s post today on A Transition Path to the Future. According to Jane, Step One in this transition is: There are, of course, a number of steps on the transition path to a post-LMS future, and one of the first inevitably involves taking a good hard look at how your LMS is performing. It may be that you want to retain it in some cut-down form, or it may be that it is providing no real value at all, and it is a barrier to “learning” . I’m not suggesting that in every case, you should junk your LMS completely – in fact that would probably involve throwing the baby out with the bathwater! – but you certainly need to take an honest look at whether it is delivering what you need in the workplace today. Step Two, or a concurrent step, would be to look at how to enhance collaboration. First of all, collaborative work tools must be simple to be effective. The options then become:

Tent - the protocol for decentralized communication and evented data storage 5 Differences Between Social Media and Social Networking The differences between social media and social networking are just about as vast as night and day. There are some key differences and knowing what they are can help you gain a better understanding on how to leverage them for your brand and business. 1. By Any Definition Social media is a way to transmit, or share information with a broad audience. On the other hand, social networking is an act of engagement. 2. Social media is more akin to a communication channel. With social networking, communication is two-way. 3. It can be difficult to obtain precise numbers for determining the ROI from social media. Social networking's ROI is a bit more obvious. 4. Social media is hard work and it takes time. Because social networking is direct communication between you and the people that you choose connect with, your conversations are richer, more purposeful and more personal. 5. With social networking, you can tell your peers about your new business or blog and discuss how to make it a success.
