library.nu How to use BitTorrent to send files | Stavros' Stuff Note: If you are new to uTorrent and don’t know how to download files, see this tutorial. Another note: It appears that some users (probably only Azureus) are being asked for a username/password for authentication when opening the torrent. Just clicking “Cancel” on that window seems to work fine. Yet another note: Please don’t post support issues here, this is not the official troubleshooting forum. Support requests here will be ignored/deleted, only post issues about the actual walkthrough. You can post problems at the official uTorrent forums. Being a computer engineer, I have a lot of files to transfer. Seeing how everyone these days has a BitTorrent client, I thought “why not use it to send files to people? The tutorial is focused on uTorrent, a popular BitTorrent client, but it’s about the same with other clients. By the way, if you’re going to send something to many people, you could enable “Super seeding” in the torrent creation dialog.

Remote control your torrents with uTorrent's WebUI I used to use uTorrent, and I always thought it was the greatest. (In spite of the fact that their "official" support forum is run by a small group of teens who are VERY hostile to new users, to say the least. You can get banned for simply helping a new user by answering their questions!) However, when I switched all of my systems away from Windows, and went with Ubuntu... I continued to ask the uTorrent people when they were going to come out with a version for Ubuntu. But, as I said, "feature requests" are often greeted with terrible hostility at the uTorrent's official forum. Fortunately, I recently discovered a native Ubuntu program that is FAR FAR BETTER than uTorrent. So, if you use Ubuntu, be sure to go to Applications—>Add/Remove and find Deluge.

Torrent Butler, Serving Movie Torrents With Class It isn't often that a new torrent site comes along and actually manages to impress, but Torrent Butler is certainly one worthy of note. The site offers a wide range of movies, presented in a way that's quite refreshing and unique. Born out of frustration with "authorized" movie download sites, Torrent Butler may both frighten and inspire the MPAA's major movie studios. Torrent Butler is one of those sites that is better explained by visiting, rating than describing it. Essentially it is a huge collection of movie torrents presented in a grid of movie posters. The idea is simple yet innovative, a combination that’s often the key to success. Torrent Butler Fascinated by the project that officially launched this week, TorrentFreak got in touch with the brains behind the site to find out what inspired him to develop it. Being a movie fan nowadays is not easy though, especially outside of the US where most new films are simply unavailable online.

BinTube: The Best Thing Since Napster? Remember USENET? I do. It was one of my first forays into the Internet. According to Google's archive my first post (at least my first post under my own name, as opposed to my middle school and high school teacher's account) was back in 1995. It was shortly thereafter I learned the joys of flamewars, nettiquette, and inevitably the binary groups. It was soon thereafter that the Web itself made its rise to prominence, and soon binary files and all the fun sort of trafficking that took place on USENET ended up either in IRC, FTP traders and inevitably on the Web itself. But while illicit Web and FTP traders were getting busted left and right, Shawn Fanning rose to dominance and then experienced his humbling fall from grace, USENET remained a haven for binary trading of all types. NewTeeVee has made a nice little discovery of an application that looks like it could make USENET just as popular as when Google bought DejaNews.

How to get your missed TV shows with Azureus and Bittorrent I'll start by saying that I am a paying cable subscriber. Often times there are multiple shows on at the same time that I would like to watch and I wanted a way to be able to watch those other shows. I have a 37 inch Dell LCD TV and enjoy watching as much HD content on it as I can. Hooked up to it via one of the HDMI ports I have a PC which I am using as a media center. It currently has two hard drives in it, a 120GB and a 250GB along with an ATI Theater 550 TV card. My client of choice is Azureus, simply for its ease of use plus I like all the features it has along with the plugins available for it. The client alone will get you the ability to download torrents either by clicking on the torrent link in a browser or by copying a torrent download link and opening it within Azureus. The first plugin I got was the RSSFeed plugin. I have my filters setup to download to the same directory that my TV shows are recorded to via my TV card. Ah, I love being lazy;)

iPhone gets native P2P torrent software - The Unofficial Apple Weblog (TUAW) Your iPhone plays audio. Your iPhone plays video. Until now, you had to sync those suckers. Today, the insanely brilliant iPhone Hacker core announced a preliminary version of a Transmission Peer-to-Peer client for iPhone. The code is ported from the Transmission site to run on the iPhone's ARM microprocessor. Tests on downloaded files produced the identical MD5 checksum as downloading via wget. Now before you start torrenting, there are some important matters you need to know. Second, we are posting this because there are many *legal* torrents, including music and video, available for download. Third, this is EXTREMELY preliminary software. Fourth, this is a command-line client. Finally, be aware that torrenting will wear down your battery faster than, um... toppling a Jenga pile. Way to go core!
