Online image and photo editor - Aviary.com's Phoenix As per this blog post from July, we have officially closed the advanced suite of Flash tools (previously located at advanced.aviary.com) in order to focus on our new company direction powering the photo experience in 3rd party apps. While we hoped that everyone would have taken the time to retrieve their files since our notice, we recognize that the message may not have been seen by everyone. Therefore, if you were not able to retrieve all of your files to date, please contact us at support@aviary.com from the email address associated with your account to help retrieve your files. Do this quickly. While the tools will remain offline, we may continue to explore new homes in whole or in part, for specific elements of the suite. I would like to make a few recommendations for alternate tools to try: I have a number of thank yous to make, but I'll leave out names because there are so many and I don't want to risk leaving anyone out:
Sail by the wind! Subbania is complete – Two years of work for one HTML5 game | ektomarch. **UPDATE: The below online versions are out of date. Either get the Chrome Web Store version, or play it here. Get it from the Chrome Web Store: Click here +Play online now (works best on Chrome) +Here’s a downloadable version. Five word summary: Nazis in Hell fighting demons. Five more words: It’s pure Javascript and HTML5. Today’s the day I finally decided to release Subbania to the public. I’m glad I did. Most of my greatest ideas were conceived in the last 4-5 months of production. So what’s the end result? 118 levels, 25 songs, around 20000 lines of code, so many enemies and entities that I’m not even going to bother counting them, and a few solid hours of content. As for my frustrations that led me to consider quitting, what was the biggest? Two-thirds of the way through development, a small update was released for Chrome. Problem solved, right? In the end, I managed to pack all of my assets into a 13.5 MB folder. Then I zipped up the folder. 9.8 MB. So here’s my game.
GoodMorning! GoodMorning! is a Twitter visualization tool that shows about 11,000 ‘good morning’ tweets over a 24 hour period, rendering a simple sample of Twitter activity around the globe. The tweets are colour-coded: green blocks are early tweets, orange ones are around 9am, and red tweets are later in the morning. Black blocks are ‘out of time’ tweets which said good morning (or a non-english equivalent) at a strange time in the day. Click on the image above to see North America in detail (click on the ‘all sizes’ button to see the high-res version, which is 6400×3600), or watch the video below to see the ‘good morning’ wave travel around the globe: GoodMorning! I’ll admit that this isn’t a particularly useful visualization. The first task was to gather 24 hours worth of good morning tweets. I’d already decided to embrace the visual cliche that is the spinning globe. In my first attempts, I coloured the tweet blocks according to the size of the tweet. GoodMorning!

Work Less This is the second installment in our new series Fully Carsonified, where we reveal how we work. Today we’ll explain how and why we work a 4-day week. Have you ever noticed that right before you go on holiday you get double the amount done that you would on a normal week? Why? Because you have a time constraint. When we tell people that at Carsonified we only work 4 days a week (Mon-Thurs, 9am – 6pm) then the general assumption is that we don’t get as much done as other companies. Infact, you can. Humans are in general efficient beings. Most offices work Mon – Fri, somewhere between the hours of 9am and 6pm. Of course it doesn’t have to be Fridays that are non-work days. Common questions and answers “It’s okay for you, you don’t have clients ringing you every day and expecting you to be there.” “I have SOOO much to do I can hardly fit it into five days nevermind four!” “But what about downtime? What if I have employees? Many people ask us what to do when employees are put into the mix.
Justin Vincent — Anatomy of a Native Feeling HTML5 iOS App Check out my tech startup podcast TechZing, we've recorded over 220 episodes. Maximise your downtime by listening to us while you code, commute or do the dishes! There’s been a lot of bad press about how you can’t build a native feeling HTML5 app on iOS. The main (perceived) issue is that HTML5 apps don’t “feel” native as you click around. However, I’m of the opinion that you can build beautiful native-feeling apps with HTML5, but it requires attention to detail. I’ve been touting this possibility to a number of clients over the past year, however they’ve all been too risk averse and chose to go native… until now. Although the app is small, it’s easy to imagine that a larger app made of multiple components such as this could also be made to feel just as native.

Probably, that’s why there is Tokyo Traffic Control center working 24 hours a day. 2) It is commonly accepted that LA is the most terrible metropolis of traffic jams. 3) Time Magazine reports São Paulo has the world’s worst traffic jams. 4) Many tourist guides can warn the guests of Bangkok about heavy street traffic. 5) Moscow also has different reasons why traffic jams appear. 6) Shanghai as many other densely populated cities has the problem of traffic. 7) Mumbai traffic jams appear because of many reasons: bad weather (heavy rains), terrible narrow streets, and high quantity of vehicles. 9) NY is one of the three major US cities with heavy traffic jams.
No, the “supermoon” didn’t cause the Japanese earthquake [UPDATE: I have posted an article with more info on the earthquake and where you can donate money toward the relief efforts.] Japan suffered a massive earthquake last night, measuring nearly magnitude 9. This is one of the largest quakes in its history, causing widespread and severe damage. Before I say anything else, I’m greatly saddened by the loss of life in Japan, and I’ll be donating to disaster relief organizations to help them get in there and do what they can to give aid to those in need. While there isn’t much I can do to directly help the situation in Japan, I do hope I can help mitigate the panic and worry that can happen due to people blaming this earthquake on the so-called "supermoon" — a date when the Moon is especially close to the Earth at the same time it’s full. So let me be extremely clear: Despite what a lot of people are saying, there is no way this earthquake was caused by the Moon. So, how can I be so sure? The gravity of the situation Here’s the deal. Time and tide
Woman Sells First Spot in iPad 2 Line For $900 College student Amanda Foote has turned the die-hard techie tradition of waiting hours, sometimes days, to be the first to purchase a new Apple product into a lucrative odd job. After nearly 41 hours of waiting in line for the iPad 2 release at Apple's flagship store in New York, she sold her number one spot for $900. Foote sat through an entire day of rain, had a stranger help himself to a box of doughnuts she was eating, and slept a total of 3 hours and 10 minutes in the time between when she got in line at 5 p.m. Wednesday and when she left it at 9:00 a.m. The buyer, app developer Hazem Sayed, says he is planning on leaving for a business trip Friday evening and wants to have an iPad 2 (which starts at $499) with him. He's not alone in paying for the cachet of being among the first to purchase apple products. In June, before the iPhone 4 launch, spots in line to buy the new phone were reportedly going for as much as $1,200.
