Artificial selection in the lab Artificial selection in the lab For thousands of years, humans have been influencing evolution, through changes we have caused in the environment — and through artificial selection in the domestication of plants and animals. In many cases, scientists have carefully documented evolution through artificial selection in the lab. John Endler performed experiments in microevolution, allowing artificial selection to manipulate the spots on guppies. After fewer than 15 generations of selection, the markings of guppies in different ponds had substantially diverged as a result of natural selection. Endler then performed another experiment, with the same pond set-ups but without predators. Without predators, there was sexual selection for male guppies that stood out from their background and attracted the attention of the females.
The artwork of Joshua Petker Joshua Petker was born in Los Angeles, CA in 1979 and received a BA in Western History from The Evergreen State College in Olympia, Washington. While pursuing a degree in History he maintained a growing interest in the arts that developed out of a fascination with graffiti which Petker started creating at the age of 15. After studying abroad in 2001 at the Lorenzo de'Medici Institute of Florence, Joshua decided to pursue a career as a fine artist upon completion of his studies back in the U.S.A. Van Gogh, Neal Cassady, Cy Twombly, Mark Rothko, J.M.W. Petker's paintings have been showcased internationally and are included in a number of private collections throughout the world. Passive Aggressive Notes There seems to be a trend towards not confronting our problems. People are, more and more, avoiding conflict and becoming passive aggressive in how they deal with it. Fortunately, sometimes that passive aggressive way of dealing with problems is funny, and sometimes those funny passive aggressive notes people like to leave behind get photographed.
