Professional baseball prospects who were together in their early 20s are now veterans and have gathered together on one team for the first time in over 10 years.
Park Kyung-soo, born on March 31, 1984, and Woo Gyu-min, born on January 21, 1985, became close friends when they both joined the LG Twins in 2003. At that time, Park Kyung-soo was selected in the first round, and Woo Gyu-min was selected 19th in the second and third rounds. Two years later, Byung-ho Park joined LG as a first-round pick in 2005.
The three players who played together at LG from 2003 to 2010 are Park Byeong-ho in 2011 who was traded to Nexen, Park Gyeong-soo in 2015 with KT for 4 years for 1.82 billion won, and Woo Gyu-min in 2017 with Samsung for 4 years for 6.5 billion won. They each signed free agent contracts and moved to different teams.
However, in 2022, Park Byung-ho signed a three-year, 3 billion won free agent contract with KT and joined the Wizards, and Woo Gyu-min was selected 6th in the first round by KT in the KBO 2nd draft held after the end of last season. After contemplating whether to extend his playing career after the end of the season, Park Kyung-soo received a one-year contract offer from KT coach Lee Kang-cheol and KT general manager Na Do-hyun and decided to continue his career as a player, bringing the three together again on one team.
Woo Gyu-min, who started training together in the first spring camp, expressed his true feelings, saying, “I’m really happy, good, and happy.” Park Kyung-soo also smiled, saying, "Now I can feel it for real. I want to do well together this year." Park Byeong-ho, the youngest veteran, expressed his feelings, saying, "We shared memories from when we were young. I believe that Kyu-min and (Park) Kyung-soo will each lead our players well as the most senior two-hitters. That's why I'm happy."
