Aurora Sounds - The Auroras - tribe.net. Okay so i went looking for radio telescope audio data and stumbled upon a rich set of other data related to ELF/VLF frequencies in earth's magnetosphere. Some of the sounds are caused by ground events that propigate in the magnetosphere and arrive on on the other side of the globe. Lightning for example. But much of the sources are solar winds, in other words, this is what Aurora's SOUND LIKE!!! Most of these links are of recordings that capture several phenomenon with names like ("whistlers", "chorus", "saucers", "tweeks", "cusps", "hisses", and "wavering tones").
Some of them are crazy! Enjoy! The 2MASS Redshift Survey at CfA. 2MRS is now finished and public!
The final survey is 97.6% complete to a limiting magnitude of K=11.75 over 91% of the sky, and contains almost 45,000 galaxies. A page of images of the final survey can be found here. You can download the data from SAO/TDC. Take a tour through the 2MRS data: Quicktime movie See the redshift layers being added: Quicktime movie Goals of the 2MASS Redshift Survey The 2MASS Redshift Survey (2MRS) aims to map the distribution of galaxies and dark matter in the local universe, out to a mean redshift of z = 0.03 (roughly equivalent to 115 Mpc or 370 million light-years). 2MRS is based on galaxy selection in the near infra-red from the Two Micron All-Sky Survey (2MASS). 2MASS has now mapped all of the sky in the near infra-red J, H and K-bands. 2MRS ultimately aims to determine the redshifts of all galaxies in the XSC to a magnitude of K=12.2 mag (about 100,000 galaxies) and to within 5 deg of the Galactic plane.

Floating-point arithmetic can be expensive if you're using an integer-only processor. But floating-point values can be manipulated as integers, as a less expensive alternative. One advantage of using a high-level language is the native support of floating-point math.
This simplifies the task of programming and increases the accuracy of calculations. When used in a system that includes a hardware floating-point math unit, this can be a very powerful feature. However, if floating-point math is used on a microprocessor that supports only integer math, significant overhead can be incurred to emulate floating point, both in ROM size and in execution time.
The alternative, used by assembly language programmers for years, is to use fixed-point math that is executed using integer functions. This article will discuss a method to implement fixed-point math in C. Initialization The first step in the fixed-point math algorithm is to initialize the system. 2x-1. 1/2y-1. HeadWize - Breaking News. HeadWize - Project: Build These Noise-Canceling Headphones by Jules Ryckebusch. In today’s hectic and noisy world, we are all searching for a little peace and quiet. Well, you might not be able to slip off to a tranquil forest for an hour or two, but you can block out background noise with the Noise-Canceling Headphones. The theory behind this project is that by picking up ambient sound with a microphone and reproducing it out of phase, we can actively cancel or "null" out background noise. In fact, several commercially available devices perform the same function. However, by building your own headset, you can add features not otherwise available and have fun while doing it! Along with noise-features, the Active Noise-Canceling Headphones let you mix in an auxiliary line-level signal from a CD or tape player. .
The schematic diagram in Fig. 1 shows the design of the electronics portion of the project. The signals from the microphone then go to ICl-a. an NE5532 set up as a standard non-inverting pre-amp. . The Top 50 Proprietary Programs that Drive You Crazy — and Their Open Source Alternatives Update January 22, 2013: This article was originally posted February 7, 2008. Since then, it has been one of our most popular articles here at WHdb.com. In light of this, we have decided to give this article an update for 2013: we cleaned out some obsolete links and added a New for 2013 section.
Enjoy! Not every proprietary program can drive a person crazy, right? Some, like Adobe Photoshop, are superb tools for anyone to use. But, the fact that these tools are proprietary can drive open source fanatics up a wall. The following fifty sixty proprietary programs are listed in no particular order within broad categories along with their open source alternatives. 50 Awesome Open Source Apps You've (Probably) Never Heard Of — Datamation.com. Experts estimate that the number of open source apps available doubles every fourteen months. Sourceforge alone has more than 260,000 projects, and with so many open source apps now available from so many different repositories, it can be hard to keep up. For this list, we've highlighted some newer open source tools you might have missed. We also included some gems from obscure categories, like Mandelbulbs, gene sequencing, and knitting, to name just a few. Other open source tools on the list are good projects that are overshadowed by older, better-known projects, and at least one is an old favorite that has a new name.
We hope you enjoy our list of open source apps you've (probably) never heard of. Appliances 1. By Vivian Jang (vij2) and Nick Lee (nsl7) Introduction We have designed and built a LED t-shirt capable of displaying the heart rate of the wearer via a pulsing LED heart. Largely, our project consists of two components: the plethysmograph and the LED display. How we came up with the Idea We had thought up the idea of a heart rate display led shirt when we came across the LED shirt manufactured by Erogear©.
Erogear sells customized wearable led displays over their website at erogear.com. In this design, the LEDs are lit up in a shape of a heart and propagated across the wearer´s chest. High Level Design As previously mentioned, the project is divided into two subsections: the plethysmograph and the LED display. Plethysmograph Fortunately, Professor Land has a circuit that implements an IR plethysmograph.
Basically, the finger is placed between the IR emitter and phototransistor so the change in volume produced by the blood flow could be detected. LED Display Analog Timer Hardware Design Results. Make Conductive Glue and Glue a Circuit. This is an instructable on the best conductive glue I have been able to make that uses easy to obtain materials, glues well to most materials, is quite flexible and has a low resistance. Unfortunately for me, it uses a rubber or plastic mixture that I do not know the chemical composition of, so I cannot patent it.
There are many kinds of conductive epoxies, glues, and rubbers available. Unfortunately, they are for the most part quite expensive. So, for more than four years, I have been trying every possible combination of likely elements, compounds, and solvents that I could get my hands on, in order to make my own truly affordable conductive glue. While I have found several that have excellent low conductivity, they tend to be quite brittle and have a tendency to crack. Because this glue is quite flexible and you can vary its resistance, it has potential for different kinds of paint on sensors for robots or other devices. Make Conductive Foam and Switches. Efficient C++ library for analog reservoir computing neural networks (Echo State Networks). 2007-2008, Georg Holzmann Contents Introduction Reservoir computing is a recent kind of recurrent neural network computation, where only the output weights are trained.
This has the big advantage that training is a simple linear regression task and one cannot get into a local minimum. Such a network consists of a randomly created, fixed, sparse recurrent reservoir and a trainable output layer connected to this reservoir. Most known types are the "Echo State Network" and the "Liquid State Machine", which achieved very promising results on various machine learning benchmarks. This library should be an open source (L-GPL) and very efficient implementation of Echo State Networks with bindings to scientific computation packages (so far to python/numpy, Pure Data and octave are in work, everyone is invited to make a Matlab binding) for offline and realtime simulations. Back in May, we provided a step-by-step guide to sorting out and shoring up a digital audio library. As several readers noted, audio collections aren't the only media stores that can get out of control. Your digital photos may also be an unsorted mess, split up over several directories (or even machines), with inconsistent file names, duplicates, and a host of other problems.
This weekend, why not sift through the clutter and get the whole collection in top shape before the camera comes home with a full memory card from the next big cookout? The broad outline we'll follow is the same at the one used for music: find and eliminate duplicates, centralize storage, standardize the file names, then apply or fix the metadata. Before starting, it is a good idea to move all of your images into a single location, to help with the duplicate-finding and batch-renaming processes. Find and eliminate duplicates This will give you a list of files that have the exact same contents but different names. ANIMALS ASIA. International Community for Auditory Display.
