When you get involved enough to have a finished idea in mind, versus slowing a random song and going "that's awesome" things can get pretty interesting. There's also a group out there, myself included, who are into slowed down hardcore. Some of the more precise, fast-paced, hardcore bands from the 80s and 90s sound wonderful when you play their 45rpm single at 33rpm. A modern example of this is the most recent Converge album which is a 12inch pressed at 45rpm and is completely awesome at normal 12inch speed.
