How to Manage an Online Student Discussion. The concept of blended learning has gone viral on the Internet and in classrooms. For those who aren’t familiar, blended learning is a method that takes traditional in-class teaching and interlaces it with an online element. The beautiful thing about blended learning is that it prepares students to be a digital citizen, which is a must-have skill in a society full of technology. One vital element to digital citizenship, and what is considered to be a 21st century skill, is the ability to communicate effectively. To be a great conversationalist, students must learn the ability to participate in deep, authentic discussions, and learning to do so online is just as important as face-to-face dialogue. The Invisible Technology of School. I am currently reading Kevin Kelly's new book, What Technology Wants and am finding it a fascinating read. One interesting thing he talks about is how technology was here before we knew it existed. Meaning, before we had a name for technology or even recognized that there was this category of what we do or what exists out there that we now call technology it was there and coexisting with us.

It was an invisible force. People sharpened flint into knives, made spears, built shelters, harnessed fire, domesticated animals and farmland, sew clothing, made fish hooks, and developed language all without having a name for this embodiment of human ideas. In the early stages of the evolution of technology it was invisible to us even though it made itself present all around us. And, every time a new technology was developed it completely changed the human environment. Trying to define technology is hard. When a new technology is introduced into an ecology everything changes or becomes irrelevant. Mobile Learning infokit / Home | mlearn. M-Learning Policy Guidelines Project.

Teaching Using a New Online Learning Model: Sage-on-the-Side? « Online Learning Update. Forming a Training Mobility Strategy by Adam Smith. “Overall our strategy is to simplify, to do something, and to link to the business.

Our mobile learning strategy is in process and we expect it will be under constant adjustment. However, I’m confident that next year we’ll have solid examples and standards we can use to work with other departments as demand builds.” The current push towards using mobile devices for learning can feel like the first days of home computing. When home computers were first introduced, sales people would wax poetic about a household where children did their homework without complaint, mother kept her recipes in perfect order, and father kept immaculate spreadsheets of the family budget. Today, there are promises of employees learning on their smartphones while commuting, and a sales person learning everything there is to know about a product moments before meeting a client.
