Software Eases 3D Printing of Avatars. In 2006, when Mike Buckbee started offering the service of 3D printing Second Life avatars, it created a sensation. After all, there were already some two million residents of the virtual world, many of whom spent as much time “in-world” as in the real world. Why wouldn’t they want a tangible version of their digital persona? Reached on his cell phone by RapidToday, Buckbee says he is still plugging at it, but he isn’t thriving. He still works full time as a project manager for a development company, and runs Virginia Beach, Va. -based Fabjectory on the side. (As of post time, the site had been down for a couple weeks). Maybe so, but a lot of thought is being given to making it easier to transform an aesthetically pleasing avatar into a digitally-sound fabber-ready .stl file. The idea is to democratize 3D printing, to give MCAD capability to computer users with no more than generic MS Windows skills. Want to comment on this article? Eureka Miniatures : Custom Miniatures.

About the 100 and 300 Clubs The 100 Club and 300 Club are concepts that allows a degree of interactivity to the wargames hobby. We all have figures in mind that we have wanted to see produced, but no manufacturer has deemed worthy of making. Now Eureka Miniatures puts you in the driving seat. Working on the premise that you are not alone in wanting that special figure that no one makes, Eureka Miniatures have set up the 100 Club (25/28mm) and 300 Club (15mm) to record and accumulate the requests for custom miniatures and hopefully turn them into economically viable projects.

The figures we produce are first class. We ask you to provide your credit card details to show that you are serious in your intent. In order to work, the Club needs your input and support. Tell us the figure you want us to make, provide us with the best concise description you can - pictures most welcome - and then tell us how many you would be willing to purchase. Written by Justin Mason Once again pondering the many ways to add a custom touch to your role-playing game, I was referred to 3dTotal and their “3D Model Printing” service.

Yes, it’s exactly what it sounds like -- they can actually “print” miniatures from standard 3D model files. 3dTotal offers a few free model options, however there are many 3D-artists references available for custom model design. The resulting miniature is "rugged" and "durable" -- not the brittle plaster-like material associated with some 3D-Printed products. 3DTotal Ltd. has partnered with Growit LLC to offer this pretty amazing service. The miniatures are printed (or “grown”) in layers as small as 16 microns (.0006 inces) which means the final piece is of a quality and detail rarely seen. Download their Preparation Guide, and in just a few minutes, you’ll be underway to having your own custom miniatures that can be perfectly customized to represent player-characters, unique monsters, or npcs.

3D Model Printing. Get Custom Character Prints and Posters at Print Warcraft! | Aze. If you thought FigurePrints were awesome, you’ll love Print Warcraft – a site where you can log in, create custom artwork using your World of Warcraft characters, and then have it printed out in poster or print form. Don’t get too excited though – the site is a great idea, but it essentially lets you take your character based on screenshots and imports of what your character looks like and put them in front of a group of standard backgrounds or other screenshots, all in the WoW in-game art style.

Don’t expect any of the beautiful imagery we’ve come to expect from any of the WoW comics, the loading screens, or even the WoW trading card game. The idea is solid – you can get posters and prints of your character with their name superimposed on a logo plate and the horde or alliance emblems on it, and for a pretty reasonable price at that – a 12×18 print will run you just shy of $18 USD, and a massive 40×27 wide poster will cost you about $30 USD.
