Once again, Woodbine Entertainment is ready to celebrate International Women's Day in a special way. This week, the horse race operator announced that another women-only race will be held at Mohawk Park, Woodbine, on Thursday, March 9. And again, the race will include a lineup of 10 female drivers competing for awards.
Last year, Ontario's leading horse racing operator also hosted an International Women's Day race, which was won by driver Natasha Day. With the special event, the group received a major prize of 18,000 Canadian dollars. And the event was held on March 7, 2022, with prominent host/race analyst Dawn Lupul returning as a track announcer for the event.
According to an announcement by Woodbine Entertainment, International Women's Day will have a field of 10 female drivers to fight for the crown. The 10 drivers to compete in the March 9 race are Anita O'Ellet, Debbie O'Brien - Moran, Jesse Turen, Julie Walker, Kayla Chappelle, Maggie Jones, Marie Claude Auger, Mariel Enberg, Natasha Day and Samara Johnson.
Last year, in the all-female race, Ms. Day won the championship among female competitors. She won the race with the help of Mahamai Keith, a racing mare. Overall, 2022 has been a tremendous year for Driver in terms of career advancement, as she finished the season with 74 career wins and an impressive total of C$477,489.
Monique Vág will be the concurrent anchor on the track to host this year's Women's Day race at Woodbine Mohawk Park. Meanwhile, the organization will invite racing host/analyzer Elissa Blowe as a special guest. The track's trackside bar and patio are also available for reservation, as well as beverage specials. Game 1 of the New Holland Trotting Series is on Monday, March 6, 2023, and Game 2 is on Monday, March 13, 2023. Meanwhile, the final will be held on Saturday, March 25, 2023.
