A software standard is a standard, protocol, or other common format of a document, file, or data transfer accepted and used by one or more software developers while working on one or more than one computer programs. Software standards enable interoperability between different programs created by different developers. Use[edit] Software standards consist of certain terms, concepts, data formats, document styles and techniques agreed upon by software creators so that their software can understand the files and data created by a different computer program. To be considered a standard, a certain protocol needs to be accepted and incorporated by a group of developers who contribute to the definition and maintenance of the standard.

Some developers prefer using standards for software development because of the efficiencies it provides for code development[1] and wider user acceptance and use of the resulting application.[2] Creation[edit] Open versus closed standards[edit] See also[edit] ↂ W3C. ⬛ ISO. ▱ BSI. ⬛ IFRS. ☢️ DOI. ☢️ ISNI. ☢️ ISSN. ↂ QR Kaywa. European Committee for Standardization. Members affiliates partner standardisation bodies The European Committee for Standardization (CEN, French: Comité Européen de Normalisation) is a non-profit organisation whose mission is to foster the European economy in global trading, the welfare of European citizens and the environment by providing an efficient infrastructure to interested parties for the development, maintenance and distribution of coherent sets of standards and specifications.

The CEN was founded in 1961. More than 60,000 technical experts as well as business federations, consumer and other societal interest organisations are involved in the CEN network that reaches over 460 million people. The standardisation bodies of the thirty national members represent the twenty seven member states of the European Union, three countries of the European Free Trade Association (EFTA) and countries which are likely to join the EU or EFTA in the future. Absolute standard core definition explanatory context Absolute standards are contrasted with relative standards. analytical review (2002) states: An absolute standard refers to the knowledge and skills a student must possess in order to pass a given course. An absolute standard stays the same over multiple administrations relative to the content specifications of the test.

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia Benchmarks of education Assessment[edit] Student evaluations are a controversial method of assessing academic achievement. Recent studies have correlated high student evaluation of instructors with high grades rather than mastery of content.[7] Studies have also noted that students' understanding of assessment criteria can lead to enhanced learning experiences.[8] Globalization and academic standards[edit] According to a 2009 report by UNESCO, changes in the university structure in the late 20th and early 21st century have led to increasing access to or "massification" of higher education which has, in turn, resulted in both a diversification of the student population but also a general decrease in academic standards globally.[9] United Kingdom[edit] United States[edit] In the US, regulation is at state level by bodies such as the Standards and Assessment Division of the Arizona Department of Education.[13] Types of academic standards[edit] See also[edit]

Content Standards - Analytic Quality Glossary - Quality Research International. Content standards core definition explanatory context Content standards are similar to benchmark statements. One role of content standards is to make transparent the curriculum incuding the skills that students should develop. analytical review Wojtczak (2002) referring to medicine states: Content standards or curriculum standards describe skills, knowledge, attitudes and values; what teachers are supposed to "teach" and students are expected to learn. Standards in history make explicit the goals that all students should have opportunity to acquire… In history, standards are of two types: 1. McBrien & Brandt (1997, p. 93) state: Performance standards specify what levels of learning are expected. Organization that develops standards A standards organization, standards body, standards developing organization (SDO), or standards setting organization (SSO) is an organization whose primary function is developing, coordinating, promulgating, revising, amending, reissuing, interpreting, or otherwise contributing to the usefulness of technical standards[1] to those who employ them. Such an organization works to create uniformity across producers, consumers, government agencies, and other relevant parties regarding terminology, product specifications (e.g. size, including units of measure), protocols, and more. Its goals could include ensuring that Company A's external hard drive works on Company B's computer, an individual's blood pressure measures the same with Company C's sphygmomanometer as it does with Company D's, or that all shirts that should not be ironed have the same icon (a clothes iron crossed out with an X) on the label.[2] History[edit] Standardization[edit] Overview[edit]

Relative Standard - Analytic Quality Glossary - Quality Research International. Relative standard core definition explanatory context For example, the percentage of first-class degree may be kept constant and so the pass mark will vary from year to year. This contrasts with an absolute standard, where the pass mark is fixed and the proportion of first-class degrees varies each year. analytical review (2002) states: A relative standard can be set at the mean performances of the candidates, or by defining the units of standard deviation from the mean.

Business process to aid consistent product fitness Total Quality management (TQM), ensures that an organization, product, or service consistently performs as intended, as opposed to Quality Management, which focuses on work process and procedure standards. It has four main components: quality planning, quality assurance, quality control, and quality improvement.[1] Customers recognize that quality is an important attribute when choosing and purchasing products and services.

Suppliers can recognize that quality is an important differentiator of their offerings, and endeavor to compete on the quality of their products and the service they offer. Thus, quality management is focused both on product and service quality.[2] In earlier periods, arts and crafts were led by master craftspeople or artists who supervised studios, trained apprentices, and oversaw the product development process.

Standards of competence core definition explanatory context Standards of competence principally refer to the standards set by professional bodies (or in some countries government bodies) that spcify the skills and knowledge required to become a competent practitioner in the profession. analytical review Harvey (2006) sees standards of competence as one of four broad areas in higher education where standards are set and assessed: Standards of competence relate to the technical abilities of students.

Monitoring and evaluation. Business process Monitoring and Evaluation (M&E) is a combined term for the processes set up by organizations such as companies, government agencies, international organisations and NGOs, with the goal of improving their management of outputs, outcomes and impact. Monitoring includes the continuous assessment of programmes based on early detailed information on the progress or delay of the ongoing assessed activities.[1] Evaluation involves the examination of the relevance, effectiveness, efficiency and impact of activities in the light of specified objectives.[2] Monitoring and evaluation processes can be managed by the donors financing the assessed activities, by an independent branch of the implementing organization, by the project managers or implementing team themselves and/or by a private company.

The credibility and objectivity of monitoring and evaluation reports depend very much on the independence of the evaluators.
