MUC1. Mucin 1, cell surface associated (MUC1) or polymorphic epithelial mucin (PEM) is a mucin encoded by the MUC1 gene in humans.[1] MUC1 is a glycoprotein with extensive O-linked glycosylation of its extracellular domain.
Mucins line the apical surface of epithelial cells in the lungs, stomach, intestines, eyes and several other organs.[2] Mucins protect the body from infection by pathogen binding to oligosaccharides in the extracellular domain, preventing the pathogen from reaching the cell surface.[3] Overexpression of MUC1 is often associated with colon, breast, ovarian, lung and pancreatic cancers.[4] Joyce Taylor-Papadimitriou identified and characterised the antigen during her work with breast and ovarian tumours.
Structure[edit] MUC1 is a member of the mucin family and encodes a membrane bound, glycosylated phosphoprotein. MUC1 has a core protein mass of 120-225 kDa which increases to 250-500 kDa with glycosylation. It extends 200-500 nm beyond the surface of the cell.[5] Muscularis mucosae versus muscularis propri... Scholarship Fellowship Scholarships Fellowships. Action 1 - Erasmus Mundus Joint Doctorates (EMJDs) Below are listed the Erasmus Mundus Joint Doctorates that will be offering EU funded fellowships for doctoral programmes starting in the academic year 2015-2016.
These doctoral-level training and research programmes offer fellowships covering up to three years of doctoral activities. Applicant doctoral candidates should contact the relevant consortium offering the EMJD for more information on courses and application procedures. From 2014 onwards, new Doctoral Programmes and additional doctoral fellowships will be available under the Marie Skłodowska-Curie Actions, which form part of the EU's Horizon 2020 programme for research and innovation.
Below there is the complete list of Erasmus Mundus Joint Doctorates (EMJDs). Filter by category: Untitled. AIIMSONIANS OF AMERICA. From “The Aiimsonians of America Journal”, Vol 3 No. 2, Dec 1992.
By Yogendra Upadhyay, M.D. Class of 1956 Founding President of AOA, 1982 - 1986 It all began with a phone call. My good friend and fellow Aiimsonian, Virendra Bharel, called to let me know about the death of one of our mentors, Dr. Than a few Aiimsonians from the early batches living here, I decided to let them know through a letter about the death of Dr. The letter, however, also served as a unique opportunity for me to get in touch with old friends who I hadn't seen or spoken to for a long time. The response was very gratifying, Dev Chitkara, K.K. Naturally, there were triumphs as well as failures along the way.
Although all of us had high hopes in those early days, some of them realistic, others not, I always looked upon the Aiimsonians as a model family.
