According to the latest Forbes World Billionaires List, Miriam Adelson and his family are back in the world's richest people in casinos and games, up 15 spots from a year earlier. Lawrence Ho Yau Lung, chairman and chief executive of Melco Resorts and Entertainment, made the list again in 2023 after dropping out last year.
Mrs. Adelson, the widow of Las Vegas Sands Corp founder Sheldon Adelson, ranks 35th on the overall list in partnership with family interests, up $35 billion from $27.5 billion last year.
Ho, who is interested in casinos in Macau, the Philippines, and Cyprus, ranked 2,259th with $1.2 billion.
Forbes put together 2,640 properties, including at least 10 numbers, down from 2,668 last year.
Lui Che Woo, founding chairman of the Macau casino operator Galaxy Entertainment Group, was ranked second among casino profits, 128th with US$13.4 billion. This is up from last year's 166th, when his wealth was estimated at US$11.6 billion.
Enrique Rajon, a port and casino entrepreneur Bloomberry Resort Corporation, the founder of Solaire Resort and Casino in Manila, the capital of the Philippines, saw his wealth increase for the third consecutive year. Mr. Rajon, the second richest Filipina by Forbes, is 312th in the world with $7.3 billion. Last year, he was 369th with $6.7 billion.
Johann Graf, founder of Austrian gaming equipment maker Novomatic AG, the majority shareholder of Australia's Ainsworth Game Technology Ltd, is ranked 325th in the world this time, up $7.1 billion from last year.
Pancy Ho Chiu King, co-chairman of MGM China Holdings Ltd., a Macau casino operator majority-owned by MGM Resorts International, ranked 787th in 2023 with $3.6 billion. Last year, she ranked 951th with $3.2 billion.
Steve Windown Gains On Nagakov Founder
Steve Wynn, who was the founding chairman of Wynn Resorts, the parent company of Macau casino operator Wynn Macao, increased by $3.2 billion from 913 to 905 this year, despite a $100 million drop in wealth from 2022.
Elaine Wynn, his ex-wife and co-founder of the group, saw her wealth grow to $2.1 billion from $1.8 billion last year. She grew to 1,434 from 1,645 in 2022.
Ranked 1,067th on Forbes' list is Chen Lip Keng, founder of Nagakov, the owner of the Nagarwold Casino complex in Phnom Penh, Cambodia's capital. His wealth increased to $2.8 billion from $2.6 billion last year, which was ranked 1,196th.
Philippine entrepreneur Henry Sy Jr. is down to 1,217 at $2.5 billion, compared to 1,096 and $2.8 billion in 2022. Sy is related to family-based conglomerate SM Investments Ltd, the parent company of Belle Corp, an investor in the Philippine City of Dreams Manila casino resort run by a division of Melco Resorts.
