These different professions are often referred to as the "three O's" and they include Optometrists, Ophthalmologists and Opticians. The two practitioners that can be rightly be called "eye doctors" are Optometrists and Ophthalmologists as each is awarded a degree that has "Doctor" in the title. It kind of sounds like something messes with the lenses or the optics of your eye. Optometrist uh is your eye doctor and now can you say: ophthalmologist, optometrist and ophthalmologist, pretty darn close good job and um an ophthalmologist.
