Tony Cartalucci Infowars.com May 18, 2010 At the root of this protest is fugitive ex-prime minister, Thaksin Shinwatra. Before being elected as prime minister, Thaksin was a member of Carlyle Group’s Asian advisory board. He had bragged to media how, after being elected in 2001, he still served as a “match maker” for foreign investors. He was an eager free-trader and an open proponent of globalism in the fiercely independent Kingdom of Thailand, the only nation in Southeast Asia to avoid Western colonization.
During his premiership, he began to consolidate his power through the creation of a rurally based political machine. Behind the scenes, there was community “organizing” taking place to create what would later become the infamous “red shirts.” “Many of them [red shirts] are now absolutely convinced that Thaksin was the best leader in Thai history, that he was a kind and generous man who holds the solution to all their problems. Let's Clear Up One Confusion About Bitcoin November 3, 2017 If bitcoin can be converted into fiat currencies at a lower transaction cost than the fiat-to-fiat conversions made by banks and credit card companies, it's a superior means of exchange. One of the most common comments I hear from bitcoin skeptics goes something like this:Bitcoin isn't real money until I can buy a cup of coffee with it.
In other words, bitcoin fails the first of the two core tests of "money": that it is a means of exchange and a store of value. If we can't buy a cup of coffee with bitcoin, it obviously doesn't qualify as a means of exchange. The confusion here is the same one that plagues the conventional understanding of the foreign exchange markets: people confuse exchange and convertibility, which are both flows, i.e. transactions. Here's an illustration of the difference. Let's say Hipster Coffee Bar accepts payment in bitcoin (BTC) for a cup of coffee. Consider a credit card. What is privilege? Before the FDA decided to allow GMOs into food without labeling, FDA scientists had repeatedly warned that GM foods can create unpredictable, hard-to-detect side effects, including allergies, toxins, new diseases, and nutritional problems.
They urged long-term safety studies, but were ignored. THE CAMPAIGN FOR HEALTHIER EATING IN AMERICA Our goal is to stop the genetic engineering of our food supply. Although the introduction of genetically modified organisms (GMOs) may be one of the most dangerous health and environmental problems we face, it can be one of the easiest of the battles to win. The key is found in the tipping point, whereby a small number of individuals can move the market, forcing GMOs out of our nation’s food supply.Even a small percentage of shoppers avoiding genetically modified (GM) brands is enough to trigger an industry-wide cleanout. The Non-GMO Shopping Guide. Aspartame (Nutrasweet) Toxicity Information Center. Craig Venter creates synthetic life form | Science | The Guardia. Scientists have created the world's first synthetic life form in a landmark experiment that paves the way for designer organisms that are built rather than evolved.
The controversial feat, which has occupied 20 scientists for more than 10 years at an estimated cost of $40m, was described by one researcher as "a defining moment in biology". Craig Venter, the pioneering US geneticist behind the experiment, said the achievement heralds the dawn of a new era in which new life is made to benefit humanity, starting with bacteria that churn out biofuels, soak up carbon dioxide from the atmosphere and even manufacture vaccines.
However critics, including some religious groups, condemned the work, with one organisation warning that artificial organisms could escape into the wild and cause environmental havoc or be turned into biological weapons. Others said Venter was playing God. "We were ecstatic when the cells booted up with all the watermarks in place," Dr Venter told the Guardian.
Technology Review: Software that Learns by Watching. Overworked and much in demand, IT support staff can’t be in two places at once. But software designed to watch and learn as they carry out common tasks could soon help–by automatically performing the same jobs across different computers. The new software system, called KarDo, was developed by researchers at MIT. It can automatically configure an e-mail account, install a virus scanner, or set up access to a virtual private network, says MIT’s Dina Katabi, an associate professor at MIT. Crucially, the software just needs to watch an administrator perform this task once before being able to carry out the same job on computers running different software. Businesses spend billions of dollars each year on simple and repetitive IT tasks, according to reports from the analyst groups Forrester and Gartner. KarDo could reduce these costs by as much as 20 percent, Katabi says.
In some respects, KarDo resembles software that can be used to record macros–a set sequence of user actions on a computer. Imaginary Friends Show - BONUS. Welcome to the TAO Web. Kurzweil's next book is all about artificial intelligence. Ray Kurzweil is working on another book, this one to explore the principles of human level intelligence in machines. Titled How the Mind Works and How to Build One, the new book will explore all the amazing developments in reverse engineering the brain that have come along since his last book, the Singularity is Near was released in 2005.
Whether or not you agree with Ray Kurzweil’s predictions, the inventor and author stands out as one of the foremost futurists of our time. What inspiration or controversy will this next book bring? Kurzweil has been mentioning How the Mind Works… in public since last year. Those projects, however, face some serious obstacles. Yet as we approach human level computer intelligence we won’t merely be concerned with replicating the machinery of the brain.
