With medieval castles, quaint lakeside villages and crystal blue waters, it is no wonder that this part of Italy is famous throughout the world for its wine. However, not only the stunning views and points of historical interest make this region unique – it also offers a wide variety of wines thanks to the temperate climate and special composition of its soil.
The wines of lake garda can be divided into two main categories: Lugana and Valtenesi. The former, produced between the provinces of Verona and Brescia, is characterized by white wines made from the Turbiana grape which are able to absorb the minerality contained in the clay soil. The latter, on the other hand, is a red wine that combines various varieties of Corvina, Rondinella and Molinara. This grape, which has a thick skin and is pruinose in appearance, offers a lush pulp that delivers intriguing spicy and balsamic notes after proper vinification and aging.
Alessandro Prandini, the owner of the vineyards at Perla del Garda, explains that he and his team seek to combine innovation with tradition on their 34 hectares of vines. This is reflected in their wine, which is not only crafted with the utmost care but also uses natural fertilizers and tries to avoid the use of chemicals. In addition, the estate supports sustainability by using a photo-voltaic system to generate electricity and put it back into the grid.
