Two Decades Of Rock with CLINT BOGE From THE BUTTERFLY EFFECT. Skip to content Two Decades Of Rock with CLINT BOGE From THE BUTTERFLY EFFECT Written by Kris Peters Share This: The Butterfly Effect are possibly one of the greatest rock outfits to emerge from this country. Since releasing their self-titled EP in 2001 which led to their superb debut album Begins Here two years later, The Butterfly Effect have epitomised the Aussie battler in musical terms, often punching above their weight but invariably taking the points on a TKO every time.

“It was four kids in a rehearsal space trying to be as loud and obnoxious as possible.”Clint Boge As with most bands, The Butterfly Effect have had their share of ups and downs but have always emerged triumphant with their integrity intact. What started as only a handful of shows soon swelled to double digits, with almost half sold out already – still two weeks out from the first show. HEAVY tracked down frontman Clint Boge earlier this week to discuss the tour and the album that started it all. “We’re nervous. Our Picks. Live Review: The Butterfly Effect + Wayside at Enmore Theatre, Sydney – 3 February 2024 | Life Music Media. Review and photos by Krista Melsom The Butterfly Effect Backstory, my favourite song on Begins Here is Overwhelmed and I had NEVER seen it live. Back in the early 2000s, whenever I bumped into a band member, which happened quite often, I would consistently ask for them to perform it live. The guys could frequently be found at Brisbane bars that showed support for the local music scene. Considering how often I attended their shows in Brisbane, Gold Coast, and the Sunshine Coast, one can only imagine how many encounters I had with them. The atmosphere at the Enmore Theatre was nostalgic, and it really felt like a family reunion of sorts.

As I embarked on my own trip down memory lane, I saw some familiar faces from my past on the barrier. I had never really thought much about my life after kids left home. The duo formed after best mates Thomas Davenport (vocals) and Josh Ehmer (guitar) joined forces after playing in several different bands in Melbourne for many years. Ben Hall of The Butterfly Effect - On Your Markus. The Butterfly Effect: Begins Here 20th anniversary tour - 1 February 2024 – The Tivoli, Brisbane – words by Cody-James Henderson – pictures by Bec Harbour It’s a weird train of thought trying to remember 2003. I’m sure some of you reading this can remember what that year was like or hell, some of you mightn’t have even been born yet (shivers).

For me, I was scared 5 year old starting school with a personality shaped by Nickelodeon VCRs. I was still 18 months away from hearing my first Green Day song, but I had just discovered how much I loved the unfavourable 2002 Bon Jovi album ‘Bounce’. I didn’t know much about anything, especially just how much the landscape of heavy music was changing. The words ‘Prog’ may seem like an up-turned nose when it comes to heavy music (we all know that one Tool fan) but the way it revolutionised the modern landscape of all things metal cannot be understated. All things considered in a literal sense; I wouldn’t be doing this is I didn’t hear the 2015 Northlane record Node. Wayside – Tivoli – photos by Bec Harbour. Sense Music Media. ‘Gone’, featuring only Clint, keys and cello, is heartbreaking as ever, especially in dedication to those no longer with us 20 years later. ‘Window & the Watcher’ remains an undisputed crowd favourite, moving and singing to Clint’s conduction.

To see this band, after so much has passed, time and otherwise, dance together in joy during ‘Take It Away’ was a blessing that brought tears to my eyes. They overflowed, as did so many others’, to saying goodbye with ‘Reach’. I took a moment to look at the band one last time, then out to the crowd; everywhere for both, smiles abounded, eyes were closed, movement was lively and final seconds savoured. In closing, I’d like to offer my gratitude – for the privilege of writing this review, for sharing again these blissful moments with so many others, but most of all to Clint, Ben, Glenn and Kurt. Themusic.com. More The Butterfly Effect Just across the way, a massive American pop artist plays to an AFL Grand Final-sized crowd at the MCG. At the same time, at the Forum, around a thousand people show up for an Aussie rock act who are an absolute household name and worshipped within these walls but are more or less unheard of without.

The Butterfly Effect have selected their only support act for this historic evening very nicely indeed: Wayside initially seem just a smidgeon nervous and overawed by the venue, the size of the crowd and the gravity of the occasion, but they soon warm to their task, growing beautifully in energy and confidence over the course of their 45-minute set. Their sound is interesting, deftly juxtaposing 80s new romantic stylings (especially vocally) with hard Aussie alternative rock, all powered by a thumping rhythm section – the bass guitar is fat and pumping.

The drummer appears to be having an absolute blast as he slams out the grooves. Twenty years. The Butterfly Effect On Tour... - Hi Fi Way. This was a sweet deal for me as a reviewer because I got to cover The Butterfly Effect playing ‘Begins Here’ in full. I couldn’t believe my luck when I found this out because this album was a massive deal for me and my friends when I was 18-19 years old, which was the last time I got to see The Butterfly Effect in person.

They started off with the Intro song to ‘Begins Here’ and cranked into ‘Perception Twin’ and this was unbelievable from the outset. The light show, the pomp and circumstance, ‘Consequence’ was next and Clint Bogue was still standing in front of a big white Video Screen doing his thing. ‘One Second Of Insanity’ was next and it was when Clint finally gave the front of the stage some attention, and it was really fun the way they slowed down for the chorus and they gave us a real nicely edited version of the song, and the crowd were bloody loving it. They began a bridge and prelude into ‘Crave’ next, which tore the roof off. ‘Without Wings’ was next and here we go. THE BUTTERFLY EFFECT 20 YEARS OF BEGINS HERE: Enmore Theatre, Sydney 03/02/24.

Skip to content THE BUTTERFLY EFFECT 20 YEARS OF BEGINS HERE: Enmore Theatre, Sydney 03/02/24 Written by HEAVY Share This: Words by Matt New Pix by Angie New Photography Adored by thousands of fans and respected by many of their musical peers, The Butterfly Effect have long been considered one of the most influential bands in the Australian heavy music scene over the past three decades. This particular album holds a special place in my heart, as I have very fond memories of listening to it on repeat while studying for my Bachelor’s degree in Music during the early 2000s.

It is great to see the band active once again, touring and releasing new music after a considerable hiatus. I thoroughly enjoy the opportunity to review a band that I have never heard of or seen live before. Melbourne’s 4-piece alt-rockers, Wayside, were new territory for me, and from the very first song, they achieved what many could not: they seemed to have a vortex that sucked me in.
