However, during the 20th century, Scotland in particular has experienced rapid, large-scale reafforestation. In order to assess if this reafforestation has been sufficient to permit the potential restoration of extirpated forest mammal species with large spatial requirements, a Geographical Information System (GIS) analysis of potential habitat of one species, the Eurasian lynx, was performed for the Scottish mainland.

Lynx Management Plan for Croatia 2010 - 2015. Lynx Management Plan for Croatia 2010 - 2015 The Plan was adopted on 7 September 2010 by the Decision on adopting the Lynx Management Plan in the Republic of Croatia for the period 2010 – 2015. Out of three large carnivores present in the territory of the Republic of Croatia, lynx is the most endangered and least researched from the scientific perspective. The lynx population count has declined in the last fifteen years so lynx is considered one of the most endangered mammal species in the Republic of Croatia and it is a strictly protected species.
The practical implementation of its protection is very complex, primarily due to its position of a predator at the top of the food chain which brings lynx into competition with humans. Therefore this Plan represents a fundamental framework for ensuring protection and conservation of lynx in nature as an indispensable element of biodiversity of the Republic of Croatia. Protection status of the lynx in Greece The hunting of lynx has been prohibited by law since 1937. Habitat suitability and prey base The abandonment of traditional livestock raising practices, as well as the immigration of many people to the larger cities has lead to a marked increase of forest coverage in Greece by 7,9% (National Forest Inventory, 1992) from 18% to 25.9%.
Red deer is extinct, with only a few individuals remaining in Rhodope Mt.; Roe deer is widespread, but the populations are greatly reduced due to illegal hunting; Chamois exist in small isolated populations; Prospects and needs for the future 1. Literature referring to the lynx in Greece.
