What is uterine prolapse?

Facebook Twitter

Uterine prolapse occurs when the uterus, which is normally held in place by muscles, ligaments, and other tissues in the pelvic region, begins to descend into the vaginal canal or protrude outside the body.

It is a relatively common condition that can affect women of all ages, but is more commonly seen in postmenopausal women who have experienced multiple vaginal deliveries, obesity, chronic constipation, or other factors that can weaken the pelvic floor muscles.
