Linde Family Wing for Contemporary Art. Located in the building I.M. Pei designed for the MFA in 1981, the wing will include seven new galleries. The Henry and Lois Foster Gallery for rotating exhibitions will feature the exhibition Ellsworth Kelly: Wood Sculpture, the first museum survey of wood sculpture by the acclaimed artist. In addition, the Linde Family Wing will be a lively social space at the Museum—a destination for fullengagement with contemporary culture in all its forms through art, music, performances, readings, lectures, courses, and artist demonstrations.

To mark the opening, the Museum will host a lively 24-hour celebration—beginning with ticketedparties on September 17 and culminating in a free Open House on September 18—at which it will debut the MFA’s new acquisition, Christian Marclay’s 24-hour video, The Clock, in Remis Auditorium. The 121,307-square-foot, four-story addition--the focal point of the museum's $345 million expansion--features 53 distinct galleries and period rooms. From the Lower Ground (LG) level's prehistoric Native American and ancient Central and South American artifacts to the 20th-century works displayed on Level 3, the Art of the Americas Wing tells the story of the evolution of American creativity. On a visit to Boston in March 2011, I had my first opportunity to tour the Museum of Fine Arts' new wing, and I was impressed not only by the collection, but by the sophistication with which the structure was designed and the care and precision with which its galleries have been arranged. The Art of the Americas Wing houses more than 5,000 works: double the number of American creations previously displayed.
