This includes designing more effective services that capitalize on technology; acquiring, organizing, and disseminating highquality digital content; creating new multimedia content with other faculty colleagues; experimenting with digital preservation; and continually assessing and evaluating the impact of information technology, making appropriate changes in the provision of services and information resources.
In the first years of the DLI, the libraries have made much progress in implementing more effective user services with technology. As a follow up to my last post I added a script to my fork of Aaron’s py-flarchive that will load up a Redis instance with comments, notes, tags and sets for Flickr images that were uploaded by Brooklyn Museum. The script assumes you’ve got a snapshot of the archived metadata, which I downloaded as a tarball. It took several hours to unpack the tarball on a medium ec2 instance; so if you want to play around and just want the redis database let me know and I’ll get it to you. Once I loaded up Redis I was able to generate some high level stats: images: 5,697authors: 4,617tags: 6,132machine tags: 933comments: 7,353notes: 963sets: 141 Given how many images there were there it represents an astonishing number of authors: unique people who added tags, comments or notes.

I called this 'The Modigliani Test,' after my favorite artist Amedeo Modigliani. To pass this test, you must deliver - using Linked Data - a comprehensive list of locations of original Modigliani art works around the world. A developer named Atanas Kiryakov gave the test a good crack. In doing so, he illustrated the core issues facing the Semantic Web currently.
The challenge of this test is that there isn't currently enough linked data on the Web about Modigliani. Also the key data in this test is the locations of art works, which probably isn't one of the main data fields for art data when it's uploaded to the Web (artist name and art work title would be the two key data fields). The competition that was supposed to offer salvation of sorts at the end of a desperate campaign ultimately only provided yet another crushing disappointment. The Europa League may be the poor relation but it still matters and this hurt. The fact is the likes of Fernando Torres, Javier Mascherano, Dirk Kuyt, Yossi Benayoun and Lucas still have no medals to show for their tireless efforts in red. Among the current crop only Gerrard, Carragher and Pepe Reina have won silverware with the club. What’s clear is that the barren spell isn’t likely to be ended until there is some serious investment in a squad which clearly lacks depth.
