This course examines the evolutionary stages of the Nyaya system of thought from its ancient (pracina) to its present (navya) form, in the process of incorporating Vaisesika ontology into its system.
In this course students will be able to:
Understand the evolving nature of the use of logic and reason in various technical Indian knowledge systems
Appreciate the sophisticated cognitive-centric approach in Indian knowledge systems that emphasized logical reasoning and verification and the mechanisms of expression
Distinguish and apply the classification scheme at the heart of the Nyaya system to other Vedic and Indian knowledge systems.
