Blue roof cabin. Have I mentioned I collect Santas?
Well I do. Love them. Today I worked on staining the top of the new kitchen island I have been building and in between coats seemed like the perfect time to bust out the Santas. I have quite an odd collection. My tastes have really changed over the last few years. I decided to group all the folksy types together on my dining room display shelf. Don't they just make you smile? I also brought out some of my favorite wispy garland and ornaments for our hutch. I filled my old wood bowl with a few pine cones and the jewel toned balls. Hmmm needs some Santas I think. My Sister made me those two Santas. I love it. The next year she made this one.I mean look at the detail on these things. Then there is Jeeves. Back to the kitchen island. Holiday / DIY Snow globes. Darkroom and Dearly: {10th day of christmas: sock snowmen} Ok, this is definitely my favorite craft I've made all season.
First, because they're super easy to make, and second, because they're ADORABLE. I've been meaning to make some kind of snowman craft since the 1st day of Christmas crafts, but unfortunately I couldn't figure out a good design. So far I've made all my crafts with stuff I've had lying around the house, so my holiday craft cost was close to nothing. Adorable snowmen, however, require blocks of wood or pieces of styrofoam or paint or fabric and time and effort and money. I was debating between making a snowman out of a wire hanger or rolls of fabric when a thought struck me: socks!
Sure enough, I found some adorable inspiration from {then she made}, and I set to work. {sock snowmen} For this craft, you'll need a pair of old socks that are crew length, or longer. First, cut off the top of the sock from the foot. Turn the sock inside out and attach a rubber band tightly to the top of the sock. Now, decorate! Cotton Ball Christmas Window. Christmas Craft — Country Woman Magazine. Stemware Snow Globes. SUNDAY, DECEMBER 11, 2011 | Comments: 51 Inexpensive stemware from IKEA are easily converted into interesting snow globes… Small plastic reindeer (picked up at Michaels for a few dollars) are caught in a winter scene under glass.
You can also check resale shops for lone stemware pieces. I used a brandy glass and a red wine goblet from IKEA to make mine – they cost a few dollars each. Place glass upside down onto cardboard and trace the circumference of the opening. Using a hot glue gun, I attached my objects to the cardboard. Fill glass with a few tablespoons of artificial snow or glitter. Line rim of glass with hot glue and press on cardboard. I cut a piece of decorative origami paper to cover the back of the cardboard. A sliver of the cardboard base will be poking out from the rim a bit – to cover this up, I painted it with white glue and dusted it with white glitter.
