KT Spring Camp is being held at Hyundai Motor Company Dream Ball Park in Gijang, Busan. One of the pitchers that KT coach Lee Kang-cheol is most looking forward to is Moon Yong-ik, who came as a free agent compensation player for Kim Jae-yoon, who went to the Samsung Lions.
Moon Yong-ik, who wore the Samsung uniform as the 59th pick in the 2nd 6th round in 2017, did not perform very well at Samsung.
After debuting in the first team in 2021, 22 games in the 2021 season, 2 wins, 2 holds, and an ERA of 4.50, 39 games in the 2022 season, 1 win, 2 losses, 1 save, and 2 holds, with an ERA of 3.35, and 14 games in the 2023 season, 1 win, 1 win, and an ERA of 4.15, for a total of 75 games in the first team, including 4.15. He was average with 2 wins, 2 losses, 1 save, 4 holds, and an ERA of 3.84. His futures records were also 84 games overall, 6 wins, 4 losses, 7 saves, 5 holds, and an ERA of 5.91.
Nevertheless, not only coach Lee Kang-cheol but also the players are looking forward to Moon Yong-ik's performance.
Coach Lee Kang-cheol said, “I don’t know yet whether he will do well or not, but picking Moon Yong-ik is a harvest. He also has a breaking ball at 150km. He throws a curveball with a large angle. There is no pitcher on our team who gets this type of strikeout. So far, I've got it all figured out. “He wants to give it a try,” he said.
Veteran catcher Jang Seong-woo also said, “I talked to the manager at the senior team dinner. He spoke specifically to me. ‘You must make Moon Yong-ik your own. He said, ‘I will raise you.’”
