At what age should children have their first eye exam?

Facebook Twitter

This initial exam is usually performed by a pediatrician or family physician, and it's focused on identifying any obvious eye problems, such as a lazy eye or crossed eyes.

Children should then have another comprehensive eye exam at age 3, and again just before they start school, around age 5 or 6. If no vision problems are detected at these visits, it's generally recommended that they have a comprehensive eye exam every two years thereafter.
