To speed up the research and development for drugs or vaccines needed for coronavirus treatment, DCGI or Drug Controller of India has come forward to facilitate the fast track approval of every company involved in the work. The drug license application and registration process can be a tedious process under normal circumstances.
It will help in quick finding of a solution that can provide effective treatment or even cure for the disease. As per the proposal, all applications from companies will be offered very high priority and it will help the companies in speeding their research.
For speeding up the whole process, DCGI has proposed seven different measures right from speed approval of the proposed drug to relinquishing animal study and providing good pathways which in normal might take several months.
In a notification to several drug makers, DCGI has informed several companies along with the research firms possessing protocol for either proposal of old drug or invention of any new drug will be given high priority for reviewing and approval. Along with that the applications for clinical trial permission as well application for import of drug or vaccine manufacture will be expedited.
Moreover, if a company contains a drug or a vaccine with prior approval for COVID-19 treatment in another country then such a company can make a direct approach to DCGI and ask for speed marketing permission for selling the product in India.
In addition to that, the data required for animal toxicity as well as the clinical study may be waived. DCGI has also further stated that all those applying for importing a drug for testing and analysis required for checking the effectiveness with the true molecules will get their applications processed within 7 days.
As this deadly Covid-19 virus is spreading its reach across the world and especially in Asian countries. The need for an effective treatment to counter this virus is becoming more imperative by each passing day. However, expediting the application process is a bold and commendable step by the authorities.
