Tech-and-arts. Pop Culture Cash. Are you a master of pop culture? Can you name random characters from a movie, fast food mascots, great artists and rock and roll legends? If the answer to that is "Yes! ," then you'll enjoy these currency manipulations by James Charles. Going on now till June 4, 2011, Charles is showing an exhibition with fellow artist Akira Beard at the Shooting Gallery in San Francisco. Called American Iconomics, it asked the artists to fixate on the idea of the “contemporary American icon.”
Today, we present to you a selection of Charles' clever work. “As of last year, artist James Charles has been engrossed in an interesting new project; small in scale…but large in depth. "Altering currency in this way also poses questions regarding the true value of paper bills, something made with seemingly insignificant materials – that somehow fuels our country’s evershifting economy, and ultimately impacts living conditions around the globe. Interactive Starry Night - Teach Students Movement in Art | TheVirtualInstructor Blog. Movement can be a bit tricky to teach to art students. Movement, a principle of art, can take on several forms in a work of art.
It can refer to eye movement, or the way a viewer’s eye moves through a work of art. Or movement can refer to the actual feeling of movement that is created by the application of material on the surface. Van Gogh definitely falls into the category of an artist that used brushstrokes to convey movement in his art. The large directional brushstrokes forces your eye to follow patterns, while at the same time coveys the feeling of physical movement in the artwork. Teaching this concept to students can, at times, be difficult. His creation is a fully interactive digital version of Van Gogh’s famous work. So, how does this work? The Princess and the Pea. Posted on Jul 2, 1997 by Hans Christian Andersen Illustrated by Edmund Dulac There was once a prince, and he wanted a princess, but then she must be a real Princess.
He travelled right around the world to find one, but there was always something wrong. There were plenty of princesses, but whether they were real princesses he had great difficulty in discovering; there was always something which was not quite right about them. So at last he had come home again, and he was very sad because he wanted a real princess so badly.
One evening there was a terrible storm; it thundered and lightninged and the rain poured down in torrents; indeed it was a fearful night. In the middle of the storm somebody knocked at the town gate, and the old King himself sent to open it. It was a princess who stood outside, but she was in a terrible state from the rain and the storm. ‘Well we shall soon see if that is true,’ thought the old Queen, but she said nothing. ‘Oh terribly bad!’ Now this is a true story.

Pizza’s box inspired by Michael Craig-Martin. Japanese Notan. This week, 5th graders will be considering line and shape as they create positive and negative space in a Notan-inspired collage. We'll begin by looking at some examples of the Japanese tradition as well as some more contemporary collages. Examples include symmetrical and assymetrical designs. I plan on having students prepare their base paper by applying strips of a musical score, which will show beneath their cut paper work, creating a first layer. Next they will fold their square of black paper in fourths, write the word fold by the 2 folded edges and cut out shapes along the 2 outside edges (the edges NOT folded). These cuts should be fairly near the folded edges to start out. We will be using gluestick to do this, but Mod Podge would work well, too. A final piece, done with a black 4" square glued on white, looks like this. Notan Designs.
Materials: - Construction Paper - Paper Squares (mine were 5" x 5") - Scissors / Exacto Knives - Glue / Gluesticks - Pencils Notan is a Japanese design concept involving the play of light and dark and having equal representation in a composition. In western culture, the positive space is usually the dominant subject of an art piece. Notan designs emphasize a balance of harmony between positive and negative space. 1. Search results for sonia delaunay. My 8th grade students just finished their final project and just in the nick of time as tomorrow is our last day of school. They created line drawings using colored pencils inspired by French artist Sonia Delaunay. Delaunay's work is a fine balance of color, shape and line as an abstract form of art. My students were really interested in her work as they saw posters hanging on my wall and in the hall of her work so I took a cue from their interest and decided to develop a lesson around her work.
We focused on line first. They examined the shapes and colored them in using colored pencils. The finished products were very bold and really commanded attention. It was a great first year for me and I look forward to a great summer of rest and lesson planning for next year! Be Well and Enjoy! Organized Chaos. Batik with Toothpaste??!!! What Fun! - by gr.5. Yes, these gorgeous 5th grade paintings, done back in the fall, are actually imitation "batiks" that were created using a resist of toothpaste mixed with Aloe Vera lotion (which I bought in the $1 store). No melted wax! According to the kids: Best Project EVER!!! And an unexpected bonus - while you are working, your art room will smell minty fresh :-) We used design elements found in Victorian architecture for design motivation for these "batiks".
Here's how you do it: First, tape muslin to a scrap of mat board. Paint over the entire image with tempera - but do NOT use washable tempera. Put in sink and let water run over it to begin to loosen paint. Voila! Word Clouds for Kids! ABCya is the leader in free educational computer games and mobile apps for kids.

I haven’t mentioned Odyssey of the Mind (OM) here yet, but my friend Wishy and I just discovered it (actually she discovered it) and we dived right in last fall as coaches for our children’s Montessori class (1st – 4th grade). It’s a bit complicated to explain OM in this post, but suffice it to say that the children have to come up with an engineering or creative project entirely on their own. “Outside Assistance” is heavily penalized. My 8 year-old daughter apparently has the role of a tree in her completely student-created play. Personally I probably would have headed to Walmart for some green dye, or better yet, green net! I was so proud of my daughter’s initiative and creative thinking!
That was a bit of a tangent, but her experiments with dye got me thinking about food coloring and how we could incorporate that into the theme color. I have wanted to try marbelizing for a long time now. Float Hope to see you then! Modigliani & The Artists of Montparnasse. Alessandra Fiordaliso upcycles cardboard into creature art « Made In Slant.
