The statute covering other crimes (at least the one that is, by far, the most commonly used) is right next to the drug one at section 212(a)(2)(A)(i)(I), and reads: "any alien convicted of, or who admits having committed, or who admits committing acts which constitute the essential elements of...a crime involving moral turpitude (other than a purely political offense or an attempt or conspiracy to commit such a crime)...is inadmissible.
" However, this one has some exceptions: "Clause (i)(I) shall not apply to an alien who committed only one crime if- Defining crimes involving moral turpitude is a rather tricky thing. That's not my read on things, but I could be wrong.
