The Nichols, New York-based Thioga Downs Casino Resort is once again showing its social responsibility to the community, making huge donations to local veterans organizations. On Friday, August 25, 2023, representatives of this property handed a check worth US$128,000 to Southern Tier Veterans Support Group.
The Tioga Down Casino Resort is one of four northern commercial casinos in New York City and offers premium gambling entertainment. On the game floor, there are over 890 slot machines boasting the most impressive progressive jackpot along with the Sex and the City, Blazing 7's Hot Shot Progressive and Big City 5's Progressive. It also offers 28 table games and 6 poker tables.
As mentioned earlier, casino representatives handed out $128,000 worth of checks to the Southern Tier Veterans Support Group, a Besal-based nonprofit that literally provides diverse resources to veterans, soldiers and military families.
The game resort's most recent donation follows a veterans welfare concert on July 28, 2023. It was the highlight of the event by Three Dog Night, and all 3,200 tickets were sold out. According to the casino, ticket sales totaled $64,000, after which Jeff Gural matched the donation.
On the issue, Mr. Gural said veterans and their families have a special place in his mind. He added that the donation was an expression of appreciation for all their service and sacrifice to the country. He also revealed that this year's annual concert could make more money than any previous charity event.
Tickets for this year's concert were sold out in a few weeks. Meanwhile, the funds raised through the event and donated to the Southern Veterans Support Corps will be used to educate the community about the needs of veterans, providing support for the welfare of veterans and many more.
This is not the first time. In April 2021, it served many meals to local residents in time for the Easter holiday. The property served more than 5,000 dinners to local families. In addition, the venue donated US$100,000 to a food bank in Southern Tier and provided more meals to more than 62 organizations.
In December 2022, the casino also hosted a special event in which the Tioga Downs Regional Community Foundation announced recipients of numerous donations. The event was held on November 29, 2022, with more than $1.1 million in grants awarded to 54 nonprofit organizations in different sectors of the region.
