Minor contract with TB of 350 million won''

Details of the contract signed by Japanese Professional Baseball (NPB) right-handed pitcher Naoyuki Uwasawa (30) with the U.S. Major League Baseball (MLB) Tampa Bay Rays were announced.

The Associated Press announced on the 17th (Korean time), "Uwasawa signed a minor contract with Tampa Bay for $250,000 (340 million won). If he is promoted to the big league, his annual salary will increase to up to $3.4 million (4.6 billion won)." .

After the news of the minor contract with Uwasa was announced on the 12th, the details of the contract became known five days later.

Recently, pitchers who played in Japanese professional baseball crossed the Pacific Ocean receiving great treatment.

Japanese baseball team ace Yoshinobu Yamamoto signed a 12-year contract with the Los Angeles Dodgers worth a total of $325 million (437.3 billion won). Left-handed closer Yuki Matsui signed a five-year contract with the San Diego Padres worth $28 million (KRW 37.7 billion), and left-handed starter Shota Imanaga signed a four-year contract with the Chicago Cubs worth $53 million (KRW 71.3 billion).

Uwasawa, who attempted to appear on the American stage through a posting system (private competitive bidding), missed the deadline and announced a minor contract with Tampa Bay.

Uwasawa pitched in 24 games last year and recorded 9 wins, 9 losses, and an ERA of 2.96. His career records are 70 wins, 62 losses, and an earned run average of 3.19 in 173 games.

Considering his career, a $250,000 minor contract is worse than expected.

Instead, the salary increases significantly upon promotion to the big league. When he reaches the big league stage, he will receive $2.5 million, much more than the minimum salary of $740,000. In 2024, an additional bonus of $100,000 will be given for every 10 innings completed from 80 to 160 innings on the MLB stage. The total value of his contract could increase to $3.425 million (4.6 billion won).
