Duo sees people-powered "Crowd Farm" Two graduate students at MIT's School of Architecture and Planning want to harvest the energy of human movement in urban settings, like commuters in a train station or fans at a concert. The so-called "Crowd Farm," as envisioned by James Graham and Thaddeus Jusczyk, both M.Arch candidates, would turn the mechanical energy of people walking or jumping into a source of electricity. Their proposal took first place in the Japan-based Holcim Foundation's Sustainable Construction competition this year. A Crowd Farm in Boston's South Station railway terminal would work like this: A responsive sub-flooring system made up of blocks that depress slightly under the force of human steps would be installed beneath the station's main lobby. The slippage of the blocks against one another as people walked would generate power through the principle of the dynamo, a device that converts the energy of motion into that of an electric current.

The Crowd Farm is not intended for home use. Get Yo' Nails Did - StumbleUpon. Okay, so we’re only three weeks in to this whole thing and I’m already showing you a tame look after I totally promised some of you that I’d do a newsprint nail tutorial this week. Newsprint we can do next week, but for right now I wanted/needed a manicure by a professional.

As I told you in the first “Get Yo’ Nails Did”, it’s important to include real manicures in your nail routine if you’re not comfortable cutting your cuticles and getting into the real work at home. I am not. I’m willing to shell out $20 bucks to have the dirty work done right, but I’m not going to splurge on nail art at the salon most of the time. As you can see from the photo above, I prefer to do a basic manicure but make it a little different by switching up the colors on my index and middle fingers.

This is my “understated yet classy” look and while it still may be a bit much for some of you, you can choose colors that don’t contrast so much. MUSICAL WINE GLASSES - SET OF 2 | Wine Glasses, Music Glasses, Multi-functional Glass, Melody, Song, Chords, Play Glasses. Mealtime Melodies Create a sweet symphony on your tabletop or delight your favorite music-loving wine enthusiast with this songful set of musical wine glasses. Featuring a large goblet the size of a classic red wine glass, this innovative glass is big enough to accommodate a full A-major scale, along with your favorite wine or non-alcoholic beverage.

Musical notes are labeled with sandblasted fill lines, so just pour to the desired note and run your moistened finger along the rim. As it moves around and around the lip of the glass, your finger will alternately slip and stick, much like the motion of a violin bow. This causes the glass to vibrate like a bell and create a crystal-clear note. This tasteful trick inspired Ben Franklin to create his glass “armonica,” a spindle design propelled by a foot pedal. What kinds of instrumental innovations will you inspire over your next meal? Exclusively at UncommonGoods. Visit the blog to see our gift lab of the Major Scale Musical Wine GlassesTM! How-To: The Cascade/Waterfall Braid - StumbleUpon. The waterfall braid also known as the cascade braid recently exploded as the new "trend braid" of the season. The waterfall effect looks cool and complex, but it's easier to style than you think. Give this beautiful braid a try when Beautylish takes you through the how-to!

Section Off The waterfall braid works best on straight or loose waves. Brush out all the knots with a wide tooth comb. Part your hair how you normally would, and begin your braid on the right side of your part. Grab the top section and divide into three strands. Braid As Usual Braid your strands regularly three times, beginning from the right strand. Drop the Strand This is where it gets tricky. Step and Repeat Repeat this process—French braid the left strand, drop the right strand, and pick up an adjacent new piece.

Pin and Secure Once you've reached a comfortable point to stop your braid, secure it to your scalp with bobby pins. Fishtail It! Braid the remaining piece of hair left from your cascade into a fishtail braid.
