What is the difference between urinalysis and urine culture?

Facebook Twitter

A urine culture involves growing bacteria from a urine sample in a lab to diagnose urinary tract infections and other infections. Urine cultures are not routinely performed as part of urinalysis testing.

A urine culture sample, like a urinalysis, must be acquired using the clean catch technique or by inserting a catheter via the urethra into the bladder. If your urinalysis results show that you have a UTI, your healthcare provider may request a urine culture from a laboratory using the urine sample you provided for the initial urinalysis. A urine culture may identify the bacteria that caused the UTI. Urinalysis might comprise a variety of tests, measures, and evaluations of various characteristics of your urine. To know more about tests and their procedures, contact Aspira Pathlab & Diagnostics Limited the top Pathology Lab in Ghatkopar.
