Bjj resources: 21/11/2012 - Bullshido Throwdown Austin. Monolith Training Centre, (Throwdown), Austin, TX, USA - 21/11/2012 The Bullshido website has been very important to my BJJ. It was members of that site who originally encouraged me into the sport, giving me the push I needed to get started. It was also a thread on that site which set the tone for my future training. I would strongly recommend everybody who wants to train BJJ read it, here. I have been reading jnp's log for years, as well as his numerous other mature and helpful posts all over the Bullshido website. In terms of BJJ, I essentially got a several hour long private lesson with a high level brown belt (although as anyone who has rolled with John over the last few years can tell you, a black belt would suit him rather well ;D). Once we arrived and started rolling, John went into much more detail, as well as demonstrating both compliantly and then during the course of sparring. Along with principles, John showed me some specific techniques too.

Mount Bottom- The 2 postures, 2 frames, 2 pressures, and 2 frame locations | The Gentle Art. Mount Bottom- The 2 postures, 2 frames, 2 pressures, and 2 frame locations This week we were working mount bottom. I wanted to simplify a bit the way I taught it. In thinking about it from a posture/pressure perspective I came to the conclusion that I could teach the whole position by addressing pairs of postures, frames, pressures, and frame locations. I realized that this set of pairs really addresses all the basics from the position and give a beginner a set of tools that they can use right away.
The two postures are designed to be a platform from which you can stay safe AND launch escape attempts. Posture 1 This is your flat on your back posture. Feet up close to your rear end. Posture2 This is your up on your side posture. The 2 big pressures from here are the upa and the shrimp. In BJJ there are only 2 kinds of frames. Short frame Short frames on the knees using the elbows. Long Frame Long frame from posture 1. Long frame from posture 2. Tips for Female Grapplers. Recently I’ve received a flood of emails from women and smaller men, wanting to know how to deal with larger, stronger opponents.
The thing is that – at 200+ lbs myself – I’m NOT the best person to address these questions. Of course I’ve had to deal with a few huge steroid monsters who outweighed me by 100+ lbs, but those were the exception, not the rule. One of my solutions was to draft the ever-eloquent grappler Krista Scott-Dixon from Stumptuous.com. Weighing in at a massive 113 lbs Krista deals with larger stronger opponents almost every time she steps onto the mat. Over the last couple of days Krista has put together a really good piece called Tips for Female Grapplers for you. It’s got tips, techniques, principles and lots of practical advice for the smaller grapplers among us. Always eager to figure out how the best stay “the best,” I shot Rafael a few quick questions, which he was kind enough to answer in detail – check it out: RL – “I constantly study competition footage of myself and others to find my weaknesses and learn from other top competitors. Every week I train I always have something specific I am trying to improve or work on, whether it is something to do with my own game or something that I have watched other guys use that I want to work on. Also, when I train I work into my student’s strengths, so if one of my guy’s have a good closed guard, I start inside his closed guard. BJJ Skills Mind Map Build Skills FASTER, Improve Performance.
