Oliver Ortmann. Ortmann at the European Pool Championship 2008 in Willingen Oliver Ortmann (born 11 June 1967) is a German top professional pool player whose nickname is "The Machine". He is renowned not only as a World Champion in Nine-Ball but also in the resurgent discipline of 14.1 or straight pool.

He was inducted into the Straight Pool Hall of Fame, during a ceremony in New York City, in August of 2013. A native-born Hamburger, Ortmann is one of the most successful European players. He first came to prominence by defeating Steve Mizerak to win the 1989 US Open 14.1 Championship. Ortmann won the International Challenge of Champions in 1997. In 2004, Ortmann formed Ortmann Billiards, a company which sells pool products. Ortmann also won the 2007 WPA World Straight Pool Championship defeating Huidji See, 200-171 in the final match.

Andy Segal (born April 14, 1968) is a Trick Shot Champion from Huntington, NY. He began as a professional 9-Ball player in the 1990s, playing out of Amsterdam Billiards in New York City, and learing from top professionals like Tony Robles and George "Ginky" San Souci. He was a regular on the Camel Pro Billiard Series, and during these competitions, he would often perform Trick Shot shows for both players and spectators. A number of years earlier, he met the great Trick Shot artist Mike Massey and by the early 2000s, he was concentrating more on Trick Shots than 9-Ball. " Yang won the nine-ball event of the 1998 Asian Games against then World Pool champion Kunihiko Takahashi. He defended it in 2002 against Warren Kiamco.[1] In an unsuccessful attempt to defend that title for the second time, Yang settled for 3rd place as he was bested in the semi-finals by Jeff de Luna who then finished second to Antonio Gabica.[2] Despite the fact that he never won a world championship in any discipline of pool like two of his fellow Taiwanese players (Chao Fong-pang and Wu Chia-ching) did, Yang has often been regarded as a potential world champion.

His best finish in the World Pool Championship is 3rd where he reached the semi-finals in 2002. As His father died while he was still a child, yang was left to fend for his own along with his mother. Titles[edit] References[edit] Li Hewen. Mika Immonen. Mika Immonen (born 17 December 1972) is a Finnish professional pool player, nicknamed "the Ice Man. " He won the WPA World Nine-ball Championship in Cardiff, Wales in 2001.

That same year, he was the runner-up to Corey Deuel in the US Open Nine-ball Championship In 2002 he won the UPA International Ten-ball Championship. He has represented Team Europe on thirteen occasions in the Mosconi Cup , most recently in 2010. During the 2008 event Mika was crowned MVP, forever banishing bad memories of a costly miss in the final game of the 2006 event. In early 2009, Mika was awarded the title of Player of the Year. Subsequently, he also claimed that title for season 2009 and was awarded early 2010. Mika was born in London, England , and is also an extremely accomplished snooker player, having amassed more than 100 century breaks. Ronato (Ronnie) Alcano (pronounced al-kah-no) (born 27 July 1972 in Calamba City, Laguna, Philippines), is a Filipino professional pool player, nicknamed "Ronnie Calamba" and "the Volcano". Career history[edit] After graduating in elementary school, Alcano didn't proceed to high school due to financial problems. He then opted to play pool for a living. Alcano's recognitions in the Philippines begin with his performances at the 2000 Rising Stars Tournament. By the final, he was highly favored to win the title, yet in the final match (a race to 13), Alcano lost to Edgar Acaba by just a rack short, 13-12.

In 2002, Alcano began to make a name for himself, and began competing in major events in the US. Alcano returned to the East, for the 2005 WPA Asian Nine-ball Tour, winning the Manila tournament (11-6 versus Yang Ching-shun), and qualifying for the world championship.[1] On 16 September 2007, Alcano finished second to Antonio Gabica in the Philippine Nine-ball Open. Dennis Orcollo (born January 28, 1979), sometimes called Dennis Orcullo , is a Filipino professional pool player, nicknamed " Surigao " (name from a province in the Philippines) and " RoboCop ". Efren Manalang Reyes, OLD, PLH (born August 26, 1954) is a Filipino professional pool player and a two-time world champion. Biography[edit] Early life[edit] Reyes was born in Pampanga in 1954. He moved to Manila with his family at the age of 5. He is called Bata, which is Filipino for "Kid", because there was another older pool player named Efren when he was young. Career[edit] Gambling from a young age, Reyes played three cushion billiards in the 1960s and 1970s. During the 1980s, when Reyes was considered a top-class player in his homeland but not yet internationally recognized, he went to the U.S. to hustle. Reyes began winning a number of tournaments in the U.S., Europe and parts of Asia. Reyes' fame began when he won the US Open Nine Ball Championship in 1994 by defeating Nick Varner in the finals.

Darren Appleton during the World 9-Ball Pool Championship in Doha Darren Appleton (born 8 February 1978 in Pontefract , West Yorkshire , England ) is an English pool (pocket billiards) player, nicknamed " Dynamite ". [ 1 ] He won the first WPA World Ten-ball Championship in 2008 against Wu Chia-ching , the former world champion in both nine-ball and eight-ball from Taiwan. [ 2 ] With the victory, he became the second male player from Britain to win a world championship after Daryl Peach who won the world nine-ball title a year earlier.

Appleton, who started playing pool at age 12, [ 3 ] was formerly the world ranked no. 1 player in British-style eight-ball pool .
