Movements such as grunge, the rave scene and hip hop spread around the world to young people during the decade, aided by then-new technology such as cable television and the Internet. A combination of factors, including the continued mass mobilization of capital markets through neoliberalism, the thawing of the decades-long Cold War, the beginning of the widespread proliferation of new media such as the Internet from the middle of the decade onwards, increasing skepticism towards government, and the dissolution of the Soviet Union led to a realignment and reconsolidation of economic and political power across the world and within countries. I knew this would happen eventually — I've watched decade-specific TV shows like That '70s Show and The Wonder Years — and I've been waiting for the day when the clothes and music of my youth would be recycled and marketed back at me. I was 26 when I saw it, and it was the first film I knew of that had re-created a time period I'd lived through. A year later, Jimmy Fallon tried to reunite the cast of Saved by the Bell on his talk show. Recently, the pace of '90s references and revivals has quickened.
